This review is from: Natural History of the Waterfowl (Hardcover)
This is one of the most complete collections of information on waterfowl available. It contains beautiful pictures as well as complete information on waterfowl from all over the world. The written text is excellent giving many details about each species as well as general descriptions of the behaviors including courtship, migration, feeding, reproduction, flight, etc. This is a must for all nature lovers including wildlife artists, naturalists and birders.

Best information, worse photographs,

This book is "the" resource for information in the waterfowl. I have never read a book that was so complete and that went so deep into a specie of waterfowl. I don't think anything else exist that match this reference. But I was truely disapointed by the photographs in the book. Most are badly exposed and have blown out highlight. Being a bird photographer myself, I was shocked by how badly exposed most of the photographs were. The common eider for exemple don't have any detail in the white area and that is just plain pure white. Most photograph with white have this problem.
Ok so the book is not really about the photography of waterfowl and it is more about learning in deep about each specie...so in that regard I thought it was an amazing book. However because of the poor quality of the photographs I gave it only 3 stars. I feel that at this price, they could have put a bit more effort into providing decent photographs. If you don't care much about the visual and you only want the information about each specie, then you will love this book as it is the most complete book on the subject that I ever seen. Everything is in there.
