This is a MAJOR improvement. Reasonably priced, takes up less space on the counter, does a fairly good job of containing the odors, is very easy to carry (through the 3 doors I have to open on my trip to the composter), holds more than a days worth of compostable items, and looks attractive enough on the counter top that even my dear mother allows as how she would have it at her house.
I know it is just a pail, with a lid, and a handle, but it is a pail that does what it says it will, and does it with class.
I only recommend this product if you can find replaceable filters that FIT.
I researched quite a few of these, and decided to go with the stainless steel for several reasons, most importantly, because we have dogs, who run through the kitchen and break things, and I was hoping to get another four years out of my new compost pail.
It arrived quickly, looks good on my counter, and the grocery store bags that you put produce in fits this perfectly (yes, I realize that those are not bio-degradable, but I don't throw those in my compost, just temporarily store my compost in them, like storing my veggies in them when shopping at the produce isle).
Cleaning is easy, though I haven't had to do it very often since I use bags. There is no smell unless I open the lid, but that's standard, you have stuff rotting in your pail, it's going to have a smell.
The only reason I gave it four stars, was because I don't care for a filter that requires replacement parts. I plan to never change the filter, though I might eventually throw away the filter that's in there. I think these carbon filters are not necessary, and just a waste of money. I tried finding a stainless steel compost bin with out the carbon filter, but that got me nowhere, so I finally settled for this one.
Overall I'm extremely happy with this product.
I wanted to post an update now that I've had this compost pail for a while. It seems I have no choice but to buy a filter replacement. The filter that came with it is starting to get mold on it (of course, there's rotting food in there).Read more ›
Re-review after 11 months ... original was 5 stars
The anti corrosion stainless steel has met its match I guess and my table scraps are just too tough for it. the rust has come and wont go away, a little I could deal with BUT the kicker is there is now a gigantic hole that has eaten out the bottom. I have posted pics.
A true well made stainless steel anything should not corrode like this (at least not for years and years)
The carbon filter did work great though.
If you are thinking about buying this I would think twice unless you like rotting food leaking all over your counters.

Bin has a small hole. I thought I would get a good 5 years out of this bucket. I purchased this in November 2014. Here it is May 2016 (about 1 1/2 years later). Read morePublished 10 days ago by I M Hawai'i

keeps fruit flies etc out and odor in. use with compostable plastic liners and replacement charcoal pads and it's great way to handle small compost from kitchen.Published 3 months ago by CTG
This bin is just okay. It works fine and does not smell up the house. The problem is that it develops small pin holes that will leak then leak onto the counter. Read morePublished 4 months ago by R. Shields
