5.0 out of 5 stars Looks outstanding on Blu-Ray
I read some reviews that said the blu-ray transfer is not good but I disagree. The movie looks amazing on Blu-Ray. I had a dvd copy of this film and compared the two and it looks outstanding on blu-ray. The movie was filmed with all kinds of cameras so people might get confused by the look and say it does not look so great on blu-ray but thats not true. The film is a...

3.0 out of 5 stars BLU-RAY not perfect!
This comment is about the new Director's Cut on BLU-ray. This could have been the PERFECT release of Natural Born Killers. It is one of my favorite films. I returned this Blu-ray once thinking it was defective only to received another exactly the same. Someone messed up this transfer. If you look at the edged, there is a "shake" on the film from beginning to the end. It...

I read some reviews that said the blu-ray transfer is not good but I disagree. The movie looks amazing on Blu-Ray. The movie was filmed with all kinds of cameras so people might get confused by the look and say it does not look so great on blu-ray but thats not true. The film is a classic. If you have not seen this in a while def buy it, you will reconnect all over again. Also the audio is outstanding on blu-ray. 10 out of 10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, November 12, 2009

A very twisted look at how the media plays a role in violence in America. In my opinion this is a great film that depicts just that. Oliver Stone has made many great films and this is just one more

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, August 2, 2010

I just totally love this movie...As a photographer I am thrilled with this movie for all the different medias used, aspects of cinemaphotgraphy and overall production. It's a classic in my opinion, a bit violent, but a movie with the title, Natural Born Killers it should be. It has a great storyline and I love how they really expose the media for what it really does - famous for making something out of nothing. The first time I saw this movie was in the theatre and I came out just awe struck. Now it is on Blue Ray and I can see it over and over in High Def and everytime I watch it, I see or learn, some new little detail that adds to the plot and storyline. If you like action packed movies with big name actors (Woody Harelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Downey Jr. and more), and you like to see films that are a quite artistic and a little different, then this is a must for your Blue Ray collection. Also, using Nine Inch Nails as the main musical artist for this film is perfect - Treant Raznor is a genius. Definately a Oliver Stone masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars Frenzy of a movie, October 17, 2009
This review is from: Natural Born Killers (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
What can I say about this movie that hundreds have all ready said? Here's my own personal thoughts on Oliver Stone's under appreciated violent opus. One, from what I heard Oliver Stone and Don Murphy made some changes to Quentin Tarantino's original script, and Tarantino never really liked this movie, from what I have read.

Over all, this movie assaults the senses, some nice cinema photography, music was cool from opening credits to ending. We all know what Stone was trying to convey, Media glorifying violence, violence sells, violence in media brings in viewers, people like Mickey and Mallory are socially violent miscreants, exploited by a one savvy, weasel reporter portrayed nicely by Robert Downey Jr. I enjoy this movie because of the performances, especially by one Tommy Lee Jones, WOW when I saw this when I was 15 and watching Lee's performance as the warden I was blown away, just so unhinged and over the top I loved it!

I felt along the way Stone's message get's muddled, because us as the viewers get assaulted with all this imagery, we forget what he is trying to convey, what he is trying to get across to the viewer. Correct me if I am wrong, this has to be one of the first movies to mix an animated sequence in it, I know there is Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Cool World and some others but as a medium in the film, a scene shot as a dream sequence, having Comic book look for that one particular scene to heighten the imagery and style I thought was very cool when I had first seen it, then fast forward, Kill Bill, Tarantino does a whole scene in Anime to show O- Ren Ishi's past.

Over all a nice packaged Blu Ray edition with a new intro by Stone, new featurette to go along with this edition. If you're a Stone fan, or Woody, Tommy Lee Jones, check out this movie.

It is not always as noticeable, but in some scenes it's distracting. The films "shakes" or moves up and down. It seems like that's the way it was transfered. I checked out my ancient DVD of the same Director's Cut and the movement is not there. Oh well. I guess if I was going to watch one version of this film this would be it because of the great sound and sharpness. If it didn't wiggle like it does, I would have been %100 happy. I guess I'll wait until they "restore" it again. :(

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Stone's BEST !!!, October 14, 2009

NBK's is one of Oliver Stone's BEST movies ever - and that is saying a lot !
People who HATE this film just don't get the message and shouldn't be posting ratings negatively influencing others. However, everyone IS welcome to comment - its just a shame some might be influenced , but I guess those people shouldn't buy this anyways ! ;-)
If you have an ounce of intelligence (and can take gore..) and appreciate the dry humor and sarcasm of film - this is a must buy !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gratuitously violent love story and social commentary, March 15, 2011
By
This review is from: Natural Born Killers (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I could start this review by just dropping Quentin Tarantino and Oliver Stone's names, which should sell the movie to nearly everyone; but doing so would not do this masterpiece justice.

Oliver Stone has a reputation of pushing the envelope in terms of content but also manages to sneak in subtle messages regarding society and popular culture in his films. He also captures the rich characters that have been elegantly written with great detail. Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis are excellent as Micky and Mallory, two young lovers who embark on a no-holds-barred killing spree, all the while being pursued by law enforcement as well as the media. As the film progresses, Micky and Mallory become unlikely heroes as their brutal actions are sensationalized by the media.

While it is difficult to refer to Micky and Mallory as protagonists in Natural Born Killers because they are obviously sociopaths, it is difficult not to root for them at some points because of their uncompromising love for each other.

Two other characters worth mentioning are those portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones who play a reporter following Mickey and Mallory and a prison warden, respectively. Downey Jr.'s character does an excellent job of showing his true talent as an actor. His character personifies the media, and how it can sensationalize even the most brutal, psychotic criminals and make them celebrities. Jones' character plays the opposite role, in a futile pursuit of justice.

Natural Born Killers is in the same vein as True Romance (not a surprise considering they were both written Quentin Tarantino). Its an action movie, a love story, and a satirical view of human nature and good vs evil. The film contains strong violence, sexual material, and graphic language. It is not appropriate for small children, and those who are easily offended. However, I think that Natural Born Killers is a highly underrated film. I feel as though the title, as well as the content have caused this movie to be passed over as a mindless excuse for gratuitous violence. It may take a few times watching the film from beginning to end to truly appreciate the nuances and complexities of this film, but in the end it is well worth it.

In closing, of all the versions of this film that are available, the Unrated Directors Cut on Blu Ray is by far the best version. The special features are listed in the product description, but they are all worth owning. But this movie, keep it out of reach of children, and enjoy a great piece of film-making!

1.0 out of 5 stars This Review Is About The Blu-Ray NOT The Movie!, August 11, 2010
This review is from: Natural Born Killers (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I should of followed what one of the people said on here before because I would of never had to return this Blu-Ray. Basically this Blu-Ray has the worst transfer I have ever seen, the picture hops up and down throughout the entire film! I contacted Warner Brothers about this issue and of course I never got back a response. Save yourself money and do not buy this edition of Natural Born Killers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best movie ever made, period., December 27, 2010
This review is from: Natural Born Killers (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Screw Citzen Kane. This is honest to god the best film in the history of the cinema. Not only is there wall to wall ultraviolence, but the movie has a message, so you don't have to feel guilty about enjoying the violence. Cheering for the killers is the whole point of the movie. Of course, I cheer for the killers every single time I watch a movie, but this movie makes it ok to do so.

2.0 out of 5 stars Video Quality Varied; Good Audio Soundtrack, May 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Natural Born Killers (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Please describe the audio and video quality of any Blu-Ray you review. Thanks to those who do this.

The video quality varied throughout the movie. Some parts were very grainy black and white. Some parts were not-so-good color. Some parts looked high-def color. Some of this was on purpose, for sure. But I'm not sure if the parts that were not-so-good color were on purpose. And, I'm not sure if the black and white scenes were supposed to look as bad as they did.

The audio soundtrack (Dolby TrueHD 5.1) was good.

The movie about put me to sleep, but, it was late, and I was tired. I do not think this is a great movie.
