4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly everything is super-cute; worth every penny!
If some of these patterns came in my own size, I'd definitely make a few for myself! Everything is soft, comfy, and hip. My favorite patterns for boys are the "Hemp T-shirt and Combat Pants". They are not at all how it sounds; the pants are styled like sweat pants with little buttoned pockets right under the knee. The T-shirt is raglan-sleeved with buttons along the edge...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice patterns but check for errata first!
This has some great patterns for newborn clothes. The toddler clothes didn't really suit my style but to each their own. Check this page out before starting your patterns. [...]

The T-shirt is raglan-sleeved with buttons along the edge of one raglan seam.

My favorite little girl pattern is the "Alpaca Cardigan & Beret". The cardigan is buttoned with two buttons at the top of a button band, making it a modern, almost swing style. The hem is graced with a gorgeous bell ruffle. The "Hemp Swing Dress and Trousers" are just adorable. The great thing about hemp is that it is durable and comfortable, growing even better with time, like your favorite jeans.

The sizes range from 0 mos to 3 years, and the patterns include bamboo nursing pads, soy silk diaper liners, and a changing bag and bottle tote (the straps are knit; I would definitely reinforce them on the inside with cording to keep them from stretching out of control). The fibers utilized in this book are: alpaca, bamboo, soy silk, corn (adorable lace pajamas for girls), organic wool, hemp, and organic cotton (adorable baby blanket and matching little doggy with a T-shirt).

I can sum this up by saying that with the economy the way it is, I'm much more picky about which books are worth the money. This one is definitely staying in my knitting library! Almost every pattern is a winner. One caveat: substituting yarns is a pain because the yarn weights aren't clearly identified with the CYCA number system. I've really come to rely on that. Also, you have to figure out the yardage for substitutions.

I am so excited to get started on a project from this book! It would have been nice to peak inside before purchasing, but I wasn't disappointed. There are several projects I will be making from this book. The patterns look like they are well written and easy to follow. My first project will be the hat and coat on the cover. Very nice!

3.0 out of 5 stars Average Book, Ok patterns, May 24, 2010
This review is from: Natural Knits for Babies & Toddlers (Paperback)
With all of the books out there for knitted baby items, this one is simply average to me.

There are a few cute items that I might make, but a lot of projects that honestly look a lot like many free patterns that you can find on the internet. Maybe it's the colors of yarn that the author chose for the sample items shown in the book, or maybe I am just not into the style of clothes that Tina Barrett designs, but I found a lot of the baby items in this book a little on the 'cheesy' side (striped rompers, hooded gilet, cable sweater and earflap hat, wool tank top and hat...)The mentioned items appear to be ill-fitting in the photos, which leaves me to think that if they can't get the items to fit correctly for the book photo-shoot, there is probably an issue with fit/design of the projects as written. I am not a person who likes to make things that look 'hand-knit' or like a beginner craft project, and that is what leaps to mind when I flip through this book.

The cow hat/mittens, sheep (head) blanket and the alpaca beret are really the only 3 projects (out of about 18) that I am even thinking about making.

If you are looking for modern, beautiful baby clothes to knit, then I would look at other books to buy.
