5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a ray of hope and enlightenment for U.S.politics
Bob Roth has done us all a great service with his highly readable, timely book that offers us a vision of a simple, practical way out of political gridlock and incoherence and into a more harmonious age. The new millennium is upon us. It is time we thought in new millennium terms, not in an obsolete paradigm that is bringing us down. Bravo for this book and the...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Look At The NLP, August 24, 2001
This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
For anyone interested in third party politics, this book offers a good snapshot of the Natural Law Party, which, along with the Libertarian, Reform, and Constitution parties stands as one of the "major minors" -- often on the ballot, with a fairly professional operation. That said, much of the book drags, as Roth preaches about NLP views on several issues at great length, and gives short shrift to the party's actual plans for future electoral action. Perhaps silliest -- though most telling about what a minor party must face -- is a lengthy section about the creation and publicity of just one press release.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Natural Law Party, A Reason To Vote, October 10, 2000
This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
A real eye opener for anyone interested in the future of our country (and the world). This book clearly illustrates how the United States has become the least democratic country in the western world. It is the responsibility of every U.S. Citizen to read this book, something the Democratic and Republican parties do not want you to do. After reading this book, you will know how to make your vote really count!

5.0 out of 5 stars Readable, funny, informative and eye-opening., November 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
This is a very humorous and readable indictment of our political process. It manages to clearly present the ways in which our democracy is not in the least democratic, without whining or complaining. It also presents the startling and surprisingly realistic proposals of the Natural Law Party.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the antidote to cynicism about politics, September 16, 1998
This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
This is the antidote to political cynicism -eminently practical ideas to radically improve the human condition and reawaken our youthful idealism. If you feel that you have accomplished less in this life than you had once knew was possible, A Reason to Vote will reinspire you to take progressive action. Good intentions and ceaseless babble have not put an end to suffering. Robert Roth states the obvious-become more competent, more creative, and then do something about what is wrong in the world.

A Reason to Vote should be required reading for high school civics classes. We can no longer, in good conscience, perpetuate the myth that the Constitution established a two party system. The bi-partisan approach to government trains the mind to be dualist and simplistic. In a lively and charming way, Mr. Roth gets us to think about issues of political currency and to stretch to re-evaluate public policy. The faint-hearted will dismiss the very premise -that politics is relevant-and go back to their romance novels. Any responsible citizen with concern for our national future and the whole world family, will read it, ponder its clearly articulated principles, and do something to further the paradigm shift to a knowledge rather than information based society. Robert Roth will elevate your thinking. He alerts us to the dangers of life-damaging trends in public policy, but at the same time elaborates a world view, founded on the latest scientific understanding, that is so positive and heartening we will be compelled to instate it. The old, mechanistic view, is going to doom us. The new will transform life on earth. You can either read the book now or be dragged along, comatosed, into the future. It is much more enjoyable to be awake.

5.0 out of 5 stars George Washington would love this book., October 14, 1998

This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
I don't think the founding fathers had an iron-clad 2 party monopoly based government in mind when this country was founded. In fact in was thought that the most intelligent and creative citizens would volunteer their time and energy to run the government and then return to their real vocation. What a distance we have traveled since those ideas. Robert Roth really tells it like it is, not like we hear it from the political parties. Our government is way out of control, when it cost $40 million to run for a primary in California's gubernatoral race and when big business can buy legislation almost on demand. It's time for change, and Roth's book sheds all the light we need to see how crucial and timely that change is needed. What an extraordinary book he has written and what a must it is for all of us to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It infuriated me. It enlightened me., October 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
from Neale Donald Walsch (author of "Conversations With God")

I consider Robert Roth's book, '"The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote'" to be one of the most important books of the latter part of the twentieth century. It infuriated me. It enlightened me. I believe the Natural Law Party is the political mechanism of choice for decades to come.

I consider myself to be politically very well informed, but until I read 'The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote,' I had no idea how the Republicans and Democrats have blatantly and consistently violated the very spirit of our country's tradition of democracy for which they claim to stand, making it virtually impossible for Third Party organizations or candidates to effectively engage the American political process.

Having continually thwarted any attempt by Third Party candidates to present themselves to the electorate in a viable way, the two parties then assert that it is necessary to eliminate Third Party candidates from debates, joint television appearances and other forums and activities that should be open to all-by claiming that they are not viable candidates. The level of this hypocrisy is shocking.

That Americans have indulged this silencing of their voice for so long is the real shocker. I am certain that it is because most people do not know the extent to which their rights under our founding political mandate have been denied.

It might be argued that none of this would matter a great deal if we were all satisfied with our current reality, but when the vast majority of Americans are deeply unhappy with their political system and the values which run their government, not to be able to do anything about it produces a palpable national frustration, leading from disappointment to anger to apathy-and that is the death knell of any democracy.

We have run out of time on this issue. That's why I am supporting and joining the efforts of the Natural Law Party to reopen the American political process and reform the democratic system, to provide our citizens with true choice once again. I have chosen this particular party because I profoundly agree with the basis of its positions on the major issues confronting the human family -a basis in natural law.

To me the term `natural law' means the ordinary and exquisite functioning of the Universe when it is left to its own devices. Can such universal life principles be applied in any practical way to a human system of politics and governance? The answer is, profoundly, yes. Indeed, it is the ignoring of such basic laws and principles which leads to our peril.

I am proud to take a political stand in America at this crucial stage in our history. Proud because the Natural Law Party gives me a party, a political philosophy, and candidates of which I can be proud-and with which my soul deeply agrees. It has been a very long time since I have been able to say that.

This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
It's great to see that there are people involved in politics who are deeply concerned about the good of the country and not caught up in special interest groups. This is a fascinating, inspiring book. Anyone who reads it will renew their faith in our election process.

This review is from: The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote: Breaking the Two-Party Stranglehold and Bringing Effective New Solutions to America's Problems (Hardcover)
Robert Roth clearly articulates the political malaise affecting the American voter. If only half of the eligible voters who did not show up at the polls in the last election were to at last have a reason to vote, we could easily elect a Natural Law Party president in 2000. The "lockout" of new ideas by the two major parties as described in this book makes one realize that if the same undemocratic ballot access laws that are in force today had been on the books one hundred and fifty years ago, the Republican Party, which was the "third" party at that time, could never have elected Abraham Lincoln.
