These layers are covered in two organic cotton covers¿the top one is removable, and can be washed in hot water (140¿ F water keeps the mattress continuously dust-mite free). This organic crib mattress is made natural rubber  latex tapped straight from the rubber tree.  The natural rubber latex forms a springy core and is sandwiched between layers of organic coir for extra support.  The coir is then wrapped in our unique lambswool which is bathed in a mixture made from lemon, lavender and eucalyptus, making it completely natural as well as maintaining the excellent thermal insulating properties of natural wool.

I ordered this mattress with a little hesitation based on the only review available on amazon. After much research on outside sites, I decided to order. The mattress arrived two days after ordering which was a huge plus as I was anxious to see this product for myself. Upon drop off, I was able to easily move the mattress to our upstairs nursery alone at 35 weeks pregnant, which is great as I need a mattress that is sturdy yet I am able to lift with ease for changing sheets, washing crib skirts and flipping the mattress if necessary. We own a standard size crib from Pottery Barn and the mattress fit is perfect! The firmness of this mattress is great! Not as soft as the futon tufted cloth type mattresses we researched but not hard as a rock either. It is of an appropriate firmness for a newborn to sleep safely. As a pediatric nurse and mother, safety is of the utmost importance! I will not compromise on safety for any reason whatsoever & after months of research, I found this mattress to have all the qualities that were important for our family, which is safety, no harmful chemicals/plastics/pesticides, environmentally friendly and organic. Although it may not be possible to go organic with all of our baby items, an organic mattress was of high importance. We give this mattress 5 stars!

We were actually quite excited about the arrival of this crib mattress because of the workmanship and materials. However, we were disappointed upon arrival. It is actually softer than a futon. In addition, it doesn't fit a standard crib, leaving about an inch gap on either side of the mattress.
