This book is a must read for psychiatrists who might be interested in new findings in psychopharmacology. It contains an excellent overview, contains many well-written meta-reviews. Its scientific standard is very high.
Especially the chapters describing omega3-fatty acids, inositol and SAM-e are very helpful and inspiring. The only problem I have with the information in this book is that the natural compounds described are difficult to acquire in Europe, but I can't fault the authors for that.

Very informative and a nice reference for any mental health clinician. I wonder if they will come out with an updated version soon. The content in this edition is still quite relevant and helpful.

The various reviews in this text come from a group at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. As such, one can expect a thorough, detailed advancement of the current state of psychiatrically based alternative medicine. Keep in mind, however, that owing to its source, this text presents alternative medicine from within the perspective of the medical model. As such, the focus can be both maddeningly conservative and narrow. However, if you accept this bias, this text provides a rich and deep reading of how the medically based mental health sciences view their current relationship with alternative medicine.
