an eye opener,

This review is from: The Natural Medicine Guide to Depression (Healthy Mind Guides) (Paperback)
I have been suffering from depression for the past 10 years, and after 5 years of being on prozac, decided to wean myself off and start taking amino acids, among other dietary supplements (described in this book) and am functioning at least as well as I did while on meds.Reading this book really opened my eyes to many ways of healing my depression that I hadn't ever heard of. It's a great overview of what sort of treatments are available, and it makes me feel like maybe I wont have to live the rest of my life in a constant struggle to mentally stay afloat. In addition, I gained new perspectives about what depression is and a variety of ways to approach healing. I only wish the book went into more details... despite my interest in all these therapies, it's hard to know where to start, and to know what will work for each individual.

Informatively studies a variety of causes for depression,

This review is from: The Natural Medicine Guide to Depression (Healthy Mind Guides) (Paperback)
The Natural Medicine Guide To Depression by medical journalist Stephanie Marohn informatively studies a wide variety of causes for depression and recommends an assortment of treatments (other than drugs) that can help alleviate depression and its diverse symptomatology. Natural medicine treatments such as homeopathy, flower essence therapy, psychic healing, traditional Chinese medicine, and others are discussed, in this thoughtful guide. However, the remedies here showcased should not be seen as a first resort because the experience of a professional doctor is of utmost importance. The Natural Medicine Guide is a recommended supplement to, not a replacement of, standard medical care in the treatment of depression.
