5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT COMPILATION
This is a great Bob Marley compilation. I would argue that it is as good a Legend and most certainly a great companion piece to that disc. It is more politidal but don't let that scare you. The songs go down so smoothly!

3.0 out of 5 stars Rebel Music Vol. 2
While there are great songs on this CD (from Bob Marley how can they be otherwise), I was somewhat disappointed for two reasons: 1. the 1986 release of Rebel Music was meant to show the "political" side of Bob Marley and although there were only 10 songs it accomplishes that purpose; this CD duplicates two songs (Crazy Baldheads and So Much Trouble In The World)...

While there are great songs on this CD (from Bob Marley how can they be otherwise), I was somewhat disappointed for two reasons: 1. the 1986 release of Rebel Music was meant to show the "political" side of Bob Marley and although there were only 10 songs it accomplishes that purpose; this CD duplicates two songs (Crazy Baldheads and So Much Trouble In The World) from that set and they could have used other songs; 2. The original rhythm tracks for Iron Lion Zion and Keep On Moving were eliminated and "contemporary" tracks (circa 1992) were created instead; one wonders if Bob would have approved (the original tracks can be heard on the box set Songs Of Freedom).

Don't get me wrong; these songs are required listening. But I think you'd do better either with the box set (now back in print!) or his individual CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel it in the one drop, February 21, 2005
This review is from: Natural Mystic: Legend Lives on (Audio CD)
This is a great compilation of songs that belong on Legend, so if you already own Legend you should probably get this. The songs here are from albums not included on Legend like Natty Dread, Survival and Rastaman Vibration. Those 3 albums are amoung Bob and the Wailers' best works and they should definitely be heard. The instrumentation here is just as good as on legend, and the songs here are fan and collector favorites so you will be sure to enoy them as well. I am glad that Natural Mystic has continued to help the legend live on, and if you like Legend get this cd and you will be well on your way to a fine Wailers collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystic Marley !, November 27, 2004

Natural Mystic is by far one of the best Bob Marley collections, along with Legend & Songs of Freedom. Bob Marley fans certainly won't be dissappointed with Natural Mystic. Bob inspires us as he sings his songs of love, hope, peace, and freedom. The message is certainly clear and evident in each of these songs.

One can certainly see where Marley gets the title "King of Reggae" from as he chants down on songs like "Easy Skanking", "Iron Lion Zion" "Pimper's Paradise" "So Much Trouble in the World". Bob also does an awesome rendition of Curtis "the Pioneer" Mayfield's song "Keep on Movin." And last but certainly not least the heartfelt "Time Will Tell". This is a must have for all Marley fans both young and old. The Legend continues as our Natural Mystic's voice continues to echo.

Though the shell is gone, the spirit remains as the Legacy continues and the message remains the same. Bob, thank you for your Songs of Freedom. R.I.P., Our Lion from Zion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly timeless, February 6, 2004
This review is from: Natural Mystic: Legend Lives on (Audio CD)
I've owned this CD for some time, now and I'd have to agree that Bob Marley's music should be denied by no one. I pop it into my CD player in the car and at home and can't help but turn it up after the first couple of tracks play through. The music is mass-appealing and his voice is unmatched. If you don't own any of Marley's CD's yet this would be a great first, as is "Legend". It is a necessity for anyone who appreciates great music and lyrics that are fulfilling and passionate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flogging a dead (but still relevant) horse..., April 25, 2001

I love Bob Marley dearly, and obviously I'm not alone, since "Legend" is perpetually on the back order list, and for very good reason; song for song it's probably the best compilation of all time.

This album picks up the thread, and is in no way inferior, except that most of Bob's albums are worth getting; these compilations should be aimed at the layman who doesn't know about or doesn't really care to spend the money on a complete catalogue.

That being said, the only reason this compilation doesn't get 5 stars from me is the tasteless hawking of merchandise within the liner notes. It's okay on rap albums where fashion is half the allure, but not on what's basically real art.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Legend, you'll love this CD, July 14, 1999

This review is from: Natural Mystic: Legend Lives on (Audio CD)
I bought Natural Mystic last week, and when I first heard the title track, I couldn't believe I had waited so long to buy this incredible album. Bob Marley's music is so mellow and relaxing. My three favorite songs are Natural Mystic, Trenchtown Rock, and One Drop, although all of the songs on this CD are outstanding. Natural Mystic is equally as good as Legend, so if you own that album, which so many people do, you'll love this one too.

For those fans who feel that greatest hits packages are all you need, then "Natural Mystic," in combination with the overrated "Legend," will offer you many of Marley's best offerings.

For me, however, while I understand the validity of such packages, these cds leave off many of Bob's important works with the original Wailers and therefore leave gaping holes in the listener's knowledge. The Wailers never did a better lp than "Catch a Fire," (though "Burnin'" and "Natty Dread" are excellent offerings) yet the Tosh era Wailers are sorely under-represented on these cds.

These collections are ok as starting points, and that's all.. get the lps, where you will find the meat and potatoes of the Wailers, and many nuggets that are better than most of the tracks on this cd.
