Good overview, but doesn't have a lot on how to keep a dog healthy...just cures for common problems. This is a good reference, and I'm glad I have it in my library. Very good reference if you don't wish to use pharmaceuticals on your animal. Excellent for people just beginning to use natural care for their animals...

I bought this book to use for a college course even though the reviews were poor. I found this book to be helpful. It had some different alternatives to the usual holistic and natural cures. Give this book a try.

This book contains a ton of practical information on pet care that can be accomplished by pet owners. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to care for their pets.

I love this book. It not only has ways to cure your animals ailments without harmful drugs but recipes to keep your pets healthy and looking their best! I'll take this anyday over expensive vets and harmful drugs.

This book is a handy reference book for the homowner who has cats or dogs for pets. It gives you simple home remedies for various ailments, when you pet has a problem in the evening or weekends and the vet's office isn't open.

This book is one of 4 books that I have on natural pet care. I refer to it along with all the others every time I need guidance. I have found it useful for some health issues, and will continue to reference it in the future. I always cross-reference the advice against my other books, then make a decision based on my own gut instinct as to what's best for my animals.

A lot of these cures I'd found in other books or articles already, however, the most disturbing thing about this book is the section on spaying and neutering. Dr. Heinerman said "Some people, myself included, genuinely believe that deliberate castration deprives animals...of the emotional joys associated with giving birth and parenting."

This irresponsible and downright harmful advice stopped me cold! Millions of unwanted animals are being destroyed everyday because of the kind of archaic logic Dr. Heinerman openly supports. I personally have owned animals that have had litters and many more that were never allowed to procreate and I have not seen any difference in behavior or emotional 'trauma' in those who have never reproduced.

Every veterinarian I've dealt with contradicts this view, emphasizing that altered animals are healthier overall than those left intact. I think a book on pet health should also look at preventative measures and not encourage owner irresponsiblity that ultimately results in animal deaths.

I bought this book in good faith that it would help me with three rotty puppies I rescued.One got sick with parvo so I started the treatment on the hour with the formula described in this book. I even started the well puppies on the formula on the hour.My puppies are so sick at this point,4 days later that I am putting 2 down today because they are to weak to throw up.I wish I could sue.My heart is breaking.

The book was supposed to be in good condition but the back cover was ripped I would appreciate it if they at least put a piece of tape on it before mailing. Not impressed with this company.
