Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Eco-dough is an all natural alternative. It is made with plant, fruit and veggie extracts. No chemicals, artificial dyes or metals. The containers are made from cornstarch and 100% compostable. Also it doesn't dry out like name brands. If it's left out overnight just add a few drops of olive oil and it comes right back. The eco dough is an exploratory molding dough handmade with natural and organic fruit, plant and vegetable extracts from annatto seed, beets, blueberries, carrots, paprika, purple sweet potato, red cabbage and spinach, flour, salt, cream of tartar, organic rosemary oil, vitamin E oil, soybean oil, coconut oil, potassium sorbet and citric acid. (5) 4oz. containers

Product Description

Eco-Dough is the original in the natural dough market and was first introduced at the Hollywood Farmers Market in 2008. What make's ours different is we stick to the basics. We use all natural ingredients including plant, fruit and vegetable extracts. Rosemary oil keep the dough soft and pliable and provide a light aroma. Our dough colors are earthy and vibrant. All natural ingredients equals peace of mind.

I love love love this Eco-Dough!!!!!!! I have had mine for several months and I actually like it a lot better than Playdoh. I use Eco-Dough when working with many of my special needs children and adults. They love it! My kids who have sensory integration issues love the texture and it actually smells like some of the extracts used to make it, which is a neat sensory experience for them. I also like the individual containers the Eco-dough comes in. It keeps the dough from drying out and it's a great fine motor activity to get my students to unscrew the lids and get the dough out. My students like it because it's easier to work with than Playdoh. The directions say that you can add a little olive oil if it gets dried out, but I have not had this issue so far.

Just like the other kind reviewer, I never have before reviewed anything on Amazon, but I decided to because the only other reviewer gave Eco-Dough three stars, but spent most of her review writing about Playdoh. I can't really figure out why she gave it three stars because she didn't really seem to give any reasons for that, but seems to dislike Playdoh.

IMHO, it's well worth the higher price.

This is a good natural dough. If you really want to avoid all chemicals, its great because the colors are derived from plants, like beets, spinach, etc. It has a nice essential oil smell.

My only complaint is that the product is inconsistent. We've had two containers, and the colors were much more vibrant in one. And the other had lumps of flour in the green and the orange. They werent mixed totally smooth. Ive used food colorings derived from plants before, and they are a very consistent product, so the color differences cant be attributed to the fact that not all beets are created equal. I just think that batch was either old, or not mixed well. Still, no one stopped it from being packaged or sold.

So Id say poor quality control. Still, its a fun product.

I also wish the colors were sold separately. We seem to go though the purplish one first here, and Id gladly buy more of that sole color. But since you have to buy it as a set, I wait until we are low in general.

The one thing that I hate most about most play dough is that it dries up and turns into useless chips of brittle junk. And with kids, this really can't be avoided cause they WILL leave it out and by the next day, you have to throw it out cause it's useless.

But this Eco Dough can be brought back to life with a little vegetable oil. I've tried this and it really does work. So you may have to pay a little more, but it's worth it to have dough that lasts.

AND...your kids WILL try to eat play dough. Is just a fact, they will.

But at least with this dough, if they sneak some in, you know it's made from natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about what kinds of toxic stuff they just swallowed.

Just my two cents. :-)

My 2-year-old was given this as a gift. The dough smells nice and comes in neat natural colors, but it is super sticky! I could barely scrape it out of the containers, and my daughter couldn't shape it well. It stuck to my table, leaving oil stains, and stuck to our fingers so that we had to wash them off with dish soap. Would not recommend.

We love this stuff, and buy it often. Generally it has a great consistency, and lasts a good while. The only quibble I have here is, this is a $19.99 item. So today, Willow Tree Toys wants 25.95 for this- um, no.

Use this eco dough all the time. Love the smell, texture, softness and that it does not dry out very fast like Playdough. I prefer the smell to playdough because it does not smell like a cookie and my dogs don't try eating it when a piece falls on the floor.
