Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Stein has written several books on women's spirituality, but there is no indication of her background in either conventional or alternative medicine. Part 1 of her book describes ten New Age and holistic healing methods; Part 2 describes 50 conditions and diseases and suggests remedies for them. Aside from a general bibliography, no references are cited in support of any of the author's claims. Some of her suggestions, e.g., taking megadoses of vitamins, pose dangers, while others, e.g., undergoing a hair analysis, do little but waste money. Her suggestions for emotional healing basically consist of feeling yourself as part of the "Goddess" and turning over your worries to her. One wonders how many women will find such suggestions useful. Only for libraries with comprehensive New Age collections.

Review

A gem of a slim volume, this guide offers a concise but thorough overview of ten of the most useful natural healing methods, followed by an alphabetical listing of health problems and their remedies. The therapies include vitamins and minerals, herbs, naturopathy, homeopathy and cell salts, amino acids, acupressure, aromatherapy, flower essences, gemstones and gem essences, and emotional healing. Descriptions are clear and illustrations are frequent, informative and easily understood. The listing of dis-eases and remedies is remarkably practical, and while certainly not exhaustive, many of the common health problems of women are covered, everything from herpes and migraines to AIDS, heart disease and PMS. For each of these disorders, a variety of approaches are suggested, including diagrams of acupressure points, herbal tincture recipes, visualization exercises, homeopathic remedies, helpful vitamins, foods, flower essences, aromas and gems. This is not an encyclopedia, but a practical tool for holistic healing. -- From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by Patricia Pettijohn

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential reference book for women's natural healing, August 18, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Natural Remedy Book for Women (Paperback)
Stein has successfully condensed into one book natural remedy information that would take years of reading otherwise. It is a tremendously valuable book for any woman (or man). Her choice of format is extremely practical as a layperson's reference book - each chapter addresses an ailment followed by the application of the healing modalities (ie homeopathy, accupressure, emotional healing). This gives the reader the ability to choose which ones they like best or to use several to support each other. She covers complaints from PMS, vaginal warts, systemic candida to thinning hair, depression and asthma. When I have a friend who is sick I find it is the first book I pull off the shelf

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, January 10, 2005
This review is from: The Natural Remedy Book for Women (Paperback)
This little gem of a book explains ten approaches to healing--vitamins/minerals, acupressure, homeopathy, herbs, etc.--in detail. It then tackles dozens of specific ailments, from AIDS to warts, and gives detailed instructions on treatment with each of the ten approaches.

Stein is extremely thorough, clear, and helpful. In dealing with a medical problem recently, I combed through all the herbals on my shelf and had ample opportunity to compare them all directly. Stein's Natural Remedy Book for Women was the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone, June 12, 2002
This review is from: The Natural Remedy Book for Women (Paperback)
This is a fabulous book and has something for everyone. It covers a large variety of health subjects and gives many alternative therapies. If you are tired of not feeling in control of your health and don't like to take constant prescription drugs....this book is for you. It allows you to take charge of your health through vitamins, reflexology, herbs, crystals, combining these methods if you wish and so much more. I highly recommend this book as a must have in your home.
