Shimmer Kids Underpop Association- 'Natural Riot'(Parasol), January 11, 2005
This review is from: Natural Riot (Audio CD)
Formed in 1996,this Bay Area six piece band's main influence is Brian Wilson.'Natural Riot' is the group's second release.Best described as lo-fi psychedelic pop.The disc sounds a bit dated, but with me,that's fine.Call it poor man's psych - it's got a late '60's feel to it.Tracks I was impressed with were the uptempo "Model Kit","Matadors In Red","Burning Bridges"(possibly the CD's best cut),the well arranged "Soft Police","The High Season" and the atmospheric "October Century".Line-up:Josh Babcock-guitar,vocals&producer,Adam Dobrer-bass,Dave Isbister-piano,Lorelei David-theremin,Dave Dunstan-sax and Mike Evans-drums.Might appeal to fans of Olivia Tremer Control,Elf Power,Smog and Apples In Stereo.
