This review is from: A Natural Sense of Wonder: Connecting Kids with Nature through the Seasons (Paperback)
A Natural Sense of Wonder was one of the best random finds in a bookstore in years. I had never heard of it or its author and found it by chance while browsing on an unrelated quest. Within minutes I fell in love with its chapters on the allure of the outdoors and its simple cures for our increasing societal disconnection from it. How this all took me back to my own childhood spent out riding bikes, and exploring the woods near my home and at my grandparents' house near the Little Miami River, in Ohio. We, too, used to skip stones, turn over logs and look for bugs, collect leaves in fall and sled ride in winter. What a tragedy that so few young people today do that anymore. Well, at least some people recognize the ongoing fearful retreat from the outside world, and this book is part memoir of a father and his children, part how-to for introducing readers to what's outside, and I found every word of it magically great!
