4.0 out of 5 stars It DOES work...almost.
I have used this CD many a time to send myself to sleep after a stressful day. The music is very calming and euphoric but the HUGE, MASSIVE noise of crashing waves and the violent tide can kind of keep you wide awake and alert. I reckon that Solitudes should have lowered the volume on the waves a bit. Whether thru speakers or headphones, the tide will always come through...

2.0 out of 5 stars Probably the most stimulating relaxation CD I've ever heard
Points for the concept, but this CD kept me awake! The crashing waves are loud and distracting, even on low volume, and the music frankly a little depressing. I actually found myself getting agitated listening to it. Then again, I had some of the worst nights' sleep ever during a vacation in Belize in which I camped on the beach for a week. Oddly enough, Gibson's...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pleasure of Falling Asleep Naturally & Drug-Free, November 14, 2004
By

This review is from: Natural Sleep Inducement (Audio CD)
I use to lay in bed for at least one hour trying to stop my mind from racing and thinking of all the things I hadn't done in the day and all the things I had to do the tomorrow. I felt like a mouse forever running around in that little squeeky wheel ~ there was never a peaceful end in sight. I tried all the tricks (reading, warm bath, lavender scents and so on) but there wasn't anything I could find that could put me in a peaceful, calm mode to finally drift off.
Thankfully, to my delight, this is NOT a problem anymore since discovering this Solitude CD. Several of the reviews I read by others, complained about the loud roars of the waves and how they could be distruptive ... this is true for maybe the first 15-25 minutes (the very first time you listen to it) then I found it provided a soothing rhythem for my mind and body to fall into.
I can't say enough GOOD things about this CD ~ I've been using it for about six weeks now ~ I have yet to remain awake through the entire CD ~ which stll amazes me !
I also suggest playing the CD on a player in the room where it can surround your sleeping area and isn't enclosed on your ears, with a set of headphones or some other listening device. I believe this makes a huge difference even though it's only on very low volume ~ just enough so you can hear it.
It's sooo nice to be able to fall asleep again without tossing and turning and battling all the lists I had going in my mind.
It DOES work :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful balance of music & nature to lull you to sleep, June 12, 1999

This review is from: Natural Sleep Inducement (Audio CD)
I bought this CD while travelling coast to coast every couple of weeks. It truly synchronizes your breathing, pulse and brainwaves to get to sleep quickly. It was even very effective when sick with the flu. Now my kids use it to relax and fall asleep. I don't think I've heard it all the way through. It's a great escape, especially for insomniacs.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd give it 10 stars if I could, October 5, 2001

I couldn't sleep...the brain just wouldn't turn off. Maybe a quick nap of an hour or two at most. Try sleeping 3-4 hours a night (light sleep - not the deep sleep you really need) for months at a time. For those of you who suffer as I do, it's no fun. Tossing and turning. Walking and pacing. Trying herbs, hot milk, ANYTHING that will help.

I bought this CD by accident. It was for the office, cubicle hell with many hallway meetings. From the sound byte it seemed a good candidate for white noise. Turned out it wasn't because it made me sleepy! That's when I finally read the jacket insert and found out what was happening.

YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!! As an earlier reviewer noted, the waves are pretty loud...for good reason. You match your breathing to the waves, you listen to the music and begin to relax. Listen to the first song in repeat mode before going to bed and maybe shortly after getting in bed. Then put the CD on repeat and somehow the different tracks take you through the various sleep brain patterns.

What a joy to finally sleep again! If you have problems falling asleep definately give it a try. If you wake up repeatedly during the night it may help. I find that it helped both problems but a friend (who had only the second problem) did not have as much success.

I recommend purchasing a pair of small headphones that wrap over your ears rather than playing it over speakers. The quality of the music is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Sleep Inducement, September 17, 2004
This review is from: Natural Sleep Inducement (Audio CD)
I've been using this cd since March 2004 to help my 2 year old - now 3 year old to sleep. We play it on a loop right through the night, and it works like a charm. On the occasions that he wakes during the night, once his needs are met, he falls right back to sleep. The first few times I went to bed with this cd on, I felt like I was on a fabulous sleep "drug". I was revelling in the sensation of being lulled to sweet sleep by the relaxing music composition and soothing sounds of the ocean. My cd is almost worn out and I'm on-line right now ordering a new one! When I took my son to visit my family in South Africa recently, the first thing I packed in my bag was this cd - both for the plane and to help him sleep in a totally new environment. It was the most valuable item in my bag. I'm so glad I discovered the magic of this cd, as corny as that may sound!

Oddly enough, Gibson's Ocean Sounds works better for me, probably because there the waves are gently washing up on shore rather than smacking into rocks. If you are used to ocean sounds then Natural Sleep Inducement may work for you, but if you're landlocked like me you may not find it as helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ocean in My House, December 25, 2002

Natural Sleep Inducement is not an ordinary cd. The music contained in the background with the ocean waves is truly relaxing. Although the waves get a bit noisy at times, it helps me go to sleep. Ignoring the loud waves will help induce sleep quickly. I shared this with many people who have troubles sleeping at night. When I listen to this cd, I find myself falling asleep in about 10 minutes. For insomniacs, this will really help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, May 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Natural Sleep Inducement (Audio CD)
This is truly a great CD. I usually cannot stand so-called "relaxation" CD's--they always put me on edge. But this one is truly phenomenal--soothing sounds and music, with carefully designed "binaural" rythms that really do induce sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love to sleep with this CD!, September 20, 1999
This review is from: Natural Sleep Inducement (Audio CD)
I absolutely love this CD. I have received my money's worth in just a half dozen plays. I let it play all night in repeat mode at low volume and let it envelope me in a peaceful good night's rest. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing CD to both fall asleep with & to leave on while you are sleeping!

We use this CD every night to put out daughter (now 15 months) to sleep. It really helps her relax and I don't know what we would do without it. Unlike some "new age" CD's that can have fast parts or annoyingly loud parts, this one is really relaxing the whole way through and very slowly fades out at the end.

Also, the constant wave sounds make a little bit of a white noise background and help drown out other sounds.

Great CD, lives up to its title.
