I had this on a cassette which was played so much it wore out! I had to get the CD...this is food for the soul! I would love to meet the people who compose this kind of music; they have to be unusual to produce this kind of product.

This is a Must Have,

About 20 years ago, I saw the VHS version of Natural States playing on TV's in a local Radio Shack. They used it for TV sales, but they did not sale the tape. They only had one copy, and I had no idea where to buy a copy at the time - it was not available in the local music stores, no one had Internet back then. I really liked the scenes and the music, and just had to have a copy. I knew the manager of the store quite well, since I went in there rather often (I was an electronics buff and majoring in electrical engineering). Least I say more.
Anyhow, since then, I have bought the Natural States CD and the Natural States DVD, and a couple other CD's by Lanz and/or Speer. The Natural States music is as good today as it was twenty years ago. It never ages. Get this CD or DVD (if you want the scenery), sit back, relax, and enjoy all the music. You won't regret it. A beautiful piece of work. I'm not into most easy listening, instrumental music like you hear on NPB radio stations. Lanz's music is a step above that.

I couldnt believe how relaxing the music made me feel. The instrumental music is very well played and at the same time, it makes me relax quickly. This is real music for the soul. When I read the title of the track, "Behind the Waterfall", I thought it may have real sounds of the waterfall but it didnt. Still even without the sounds of water, the music smoothens everything out.

When I was a kid going to EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World, I remember hearing "Behind the Waterfall" in Future World in the background. It is amazing how sometimes you hear something years ago and then you hear again for the first time. I heard it for the first time 5 years ago and it is still something I will never forget. "Behind the Waterfall" is a piece that will always be part of my childhood. Definitely worth picking up.

Early progressive sound,

This release has been out for 20 years now, and many of the tracks sound dated. However, Paul Speer's two tracks (Allegro/984 and Lento/985) are a great example of early progressive electronic music and sound just as great today as they did in '85. Worth buying just for those two tracks.

part one of a two disk set sold seperately,

This is a great album. Lantz/Speer made another great album along the same stylistic lines called Desert Vision (in my opinion, better than NS). There is also a video album of the desert southwest region that is very good.If you like Natural States, you will love desert Vision.

I remember buying this as a cassette tape from the Natural Wonders store years ago. It was one of the first music tapes I ever bought. My whole family loved it and I later bought it as a present for several family members.
Listening to the pleasant solo and synth music still brings to mind waterfalls and warm rainstorms. What a joy! Since this is just music, you could give this album to almost anyone (or keep it for yourself). I would not recommend listening to this while driving though, it is pleasant and VERY relaxing (a little too relaxing for a driver!).

Among New Age's most enduring classics.,
This review is from: Natural States (Audio CD)
I have many faint very early childhood memories of "Behind THe Waterfalls" and really loving the song. Though it was many many years before I finally knew who it was by, it remained a mystery yet I'd hear it on the radio many times over time. It later turns out that it was by David Lanz and Paul Speer and it's not the only great track on here. This entire album speaks of Enlightenment and has a strong connection with mother Nature and speaks to it's prettiest and most magnificent side (Mother Nature can be cruel though) and the need to protect it. The album cover perfectly conveys the mood and feel of the album. The music definately shows it's age in many places all across the album but "Natural States" is arguably among the most famous and popular New Age albums even as I write this, 23 years since it was released. Although in my opinion, I've heard greater and grander albums from this genre, ("So Flows The Current", and "The Eleventh Hour" come to mind), "Natural States" has remained and continues to be an enduring classic that somehow maintains a wide audience after all these years. May it continue to do so. :)
