3.0 out of 5 stars Food For Thought
Excellent for beginning to think about stonework, how to use it in your landscape, what it might look like..
It reflects the author's environmental/Japanese garden point of view, which is really an organic way of looking at landscaping in general.
Interesting to read, not many pictures [a few illustration] - a little dry in terms of food for fantasy...

Interesting to read, not many pictures [a few illustration] - a little dry in terms of food for fantasy...
and not really a how-to book for people who haven't done some fairly complex projects before.
But if you want to do some research on stone in the landscape this should be part of your process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockwork in the garden, May 25, 2010
The use of stone and rock in the garden is a really nice touch. The book shows you how to use stone and rock as a hardscape or a decorative feature. This book tells you how to choose stone, how to set and maneuver it, stacking stone, how to build garden features with it. How to transport stone, and remove it. Sources for stone. Includes some designs to copy in your own garden. How to design arrangements of stone that look natural and follow the flow and form so they do not look "forced" and man set. It teaches you about perpectives in size and look of your design. From small rocks to huge boulders, from Japanese to European gardens, the author really knows his stuff. I added a picture of the book above to help you.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Rocks!, April 12, 1999

This review is from: Natural Stonescapes: The Art and Craft of Stone Placement (Paperback)
After an interesting world-wide overview of famous rock structures, the authors show you how to use rocks to create balance, depth, and interest in your gardenscape. I love the contrasting factor of the rocks with plants. It adds a great deal of enhancement to even the commonest of botanicals. Linda Fry Kenzle, author of Gathering
