Book Description

July 13, 2011
If you have hyperthyroidism or Graves' Disease and are looking for a natural treatment solution to get to the underlying cause of your condition, then this book will show you how to restore your health naturally...and avoid radioactive iodine.  In the United States, radioactive iodine is commonly recommended as the first line of treatment for hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease.  While radioactive iodine is necessary at times, in most cases it should be the last resort.  Antithyroid drugs may be necessary to manage the symptoms, but they of course do nothing for the actual cause of the disorder.  The author of the book, Dr. Eric Osansky, was diagnosed with Graves' Disease and restored his health back to normal after following a natural treatment protocol.  Ever since then he has been helping other people with hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease use natural thyroid treatment methods restore their health.

By reading this book you will discover the following:

* How natural treatment methods help with the actual cause of the disorder, rather than temporarily manage the symptoms
* Whether or not natural treatment methods offer a permanent cure
* Why Radioactive Iodine treatment should usually be the LAST resort
* Hyperthyroid diet tips which are essential to your recovery
* Nutritional supplements and herbs which are important for any hyperthyroid condition
* The truth about hyperthyroidism and iodine supplementation
* Why many people who have genetic markers for hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease can still have their health restored naturally
* Are natural treatment methods safe during pregnancy and lactation?
* How to find a holistic doctor who focuses on endocrine disorders

The book is okay. It shows some of the reasons that might be underly the problem. If you're interested in information besides standards like bugleweed (lycopus, 20 mg/d equivalent extract(preferrible; author suggests Standard process)or 1-5g in tea; individual dosage according to symptoms , may takes weeks till improvement, dosages not mentioned in the book...) or Leonurus cardiaca, there ain't much in it which you won't find on the author's web page. Summing it up, he offers you a 12 month programme for only 990$ in your first webinar (there are other options starting with let's say 350$), so if you're interested you can contact him directly, as the book is not intended to really help you, but rather to make you go to a health care practitioner as e.g. and especially Eric. Still it may be a good companion and should not be missing on the bookshelf, though by far not as good as it could be if it would be designed to help instead of for making money.

The author, being a chiropractic "Dr." doesn't seem to have a profound scientific background,e.g. the paper sited for claiming that pure ascorbate is unhealthy most likely would have had the same result with acerola powder. On the other hand, though the concept of adrenal fatigue is not "scientific" I think including some siberian ginseng into your regimen (forget it see COMMENTs link below!!!, also regarding Eric's suggestion to supplement iodine....most likely you shouldn't!) and to pratice some stress management as meditation (...)should help you in coping better with stress and help you in restoring your health back to normal.

Well researched from someone following the topic deeply for a long time. Great. Here you will find some important scientific facts, which Eric failed to research, which are all very well elaborated in this book. It is a bit scientific and/but profoundly explains important details you all should know about the disease, in addition there are also some chapters at the end where different treatment options conventional and alternativ are discussed in detail with possible outcomes (with ATDs you can to 80% go into remission, sounds like an option, especially if you also make lifestyle and eating habit changes; so remission is no miracle as one might think reading "some" books), so you can get a very good idea of the different options, which will help you in making your! choice. Be inspired by Erics page or if you prefere to have a book in hand buy it, but this book you have to get.

As diet is a crucial factor you should also get these to books:

Another book that gives a far reaching concept on how eating grains, due to contained lectins, may lead to leaky gut and to autoimmune disease:
"Cure Your Autoimmune and Inflammatory Disease"

Furthermore
"Autoimmune The Cause and The Cure",
if you're suffering from graves' disease, as it is really a nice book, based on the idea that autoimmune diseases originate from inproper digestion (also Eric wants you to avoid most common allergens and most difficult to digest gluten and (pasteurized) dairy, though most likely two months, as immune cells produce antibodies for at least 6 months, won't do...), which seems a good concept. Though again the papers are chosen a bit biased, the main concept outlined in the last chapters are just common sense (living foods probiotics) and are similar and/or might be well combined with GAPS or the anti-inflamation diet, which all seamingly showed good results for some people.

Maybe kind of Paleo with organic meat from grass fed animals might be an other good option to combine, but being a vegetarian I didn't get into this topic very much.
If you're interested in an animal based diet that may increase your likeliness for remisssion you may want to check out the following link to start, additionaly there are some suggestions and tips on easy meditation techniques including the best one: relax into your meditation (while staying aware), and at the end some suggestions for autoimmune conditions of the thyroid are given:
you'll have to search in your favorite search engine...:

RHR_Raw_Milk_Safety_Iron_Overload_and_Finding_Calm_In_Stressful_Situations

Next something on lectins can be found on meandmydiabetes searching for:

Autoimmune Disease and Food Triggers

Low Dose Naltrexone is very promising in autoimmune diseases, and has shown good resuts in Crohn's disease and fibromyalgia. It does so by stimulating T regulatory cells, which in turn inhibit autoimmunity.
Some positive experiences have been shared for Graves'disease also, so just search for:

RHR_-_Testing_for_SIBO_Graves_Disease_and_all_about_Anemia

I'm cureently interested in some chinese Salvia root suppressing interferon gammas inflammatory mechanism involved in GD as well as CBD a non psychotropic constituent of an old fiber plant, found in the species cultivated for that purpose.

And be sure to get some coconut oil!

All the best

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good book May 15, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The author clearly explains how abnormal functioning of the thyroid gland is actually rooted in the immune system, adrenal glands malfuctioning. By his holistic training, he explains how we can restore completely optimal functioning of the thyroid naturally by addressing the imbalances in the immune system and adrenal glands instead of destroying one and only one thyroid gland through surgery or RAI. Philosophy of Dr Eric is that "whole is greater than the sum of its parts". I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Aren't There More Books Like This? February 25, 2012
By Brianna
Format:Paperback
Just about every book I have read on hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease talks about the disease, the different tests, and for the most part focuses on the medical aspect of treatment. This is important, but they don't show you how to get to the root cause of the problem, which this book does. While there are some ebooks on this topic, this is the only book I have found that gives information that everyone with hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease should have. It's too bad that endocrinologists don't have a clue when it comes to actually helping people with these problems. Rather than give everyone drugs or recommend RAI they should give everyone with Graves Disease a copy of this book.

I just got this book a little over one month ago and I've already read it twice. Dr. Osansky presents the information in such a basic way, and while there is plenty of information on holistic treatments on the internet, this book really puts it all together. Before reading this book I had already cleaned up my diet and was taking some supplements and herbs. But this book discusses just about everything you need to know to cure Graves' Disease...or at least put yourself into a permanent state of remission (as Dr. Osansky words it).

I have taken his advice and sought the help of a local naturopath (I couldn't find any natural endocrine doctors nearby). It's too early to tell if the treatment plan I'm following is working, but I'm willing to do just about anything to avoid radioactive iodine, and I really do think I'm following the path to wellness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK November 16, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a "must read" for anyone who has been diagnosed with Graves' Disease.

First let me state that I have over 20 years experience working in the health care industry and I have no objections to conventional medical treatment. That said why would I want to take a pill (for Life!) when I can fix the problem naturally and restore my health.

I choose my Doctors carefully and I know what qualities an excellent health care professional brings to the table. Dr. Osansky has them and his qualifications are top notch.

About the book:
Dr. Osansky's writing is clear and easy to understand with out compromising the quality of information he imparts. First he guides you through how your thyroid function can be compromised and then teaches you how to cure it.

This book is not a rehash of the same old, same old. Dr. Osansky's recommendations work and bring everything together in a precise guide.

I have not just been able to put my Graves' Disease into remission but I've taken control of my weight and health.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keep your expectations in check April 9, 2013
By Emme
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My mother had Graves disease leading to thyroid ablation nearly 30 years past. After being diagnosed myself 6 months ago, I was surprised to find that we don't seem to know much more about causes of the disease and that standard course of treatment is not much changed. I come from a medical family (plenty of doctors) and was raised in Southern California with strong natural & holistic medicine tendencies. As an otherwise healthy person, I am bound and determined not to go down the path of synthetic hormone replacement and as such was excited to find this book. My excitement quickly diminished as I began to read. Unfortunately this text is poorly written and the author seems more interested in medical industry politics and including irrelevant counter-statements in order to fill up space. His ideas would be better suited to a brief paper outlining his thoughts on approaching hyperthyroidism without utilizing traditional western medicine than in a book toting 'natural treatment solutions'.

If you are like me and will expose yourself to any information in hopes of finding my way to naturally stunt the intensity and progression of GD, then you may find a few gems of knowledge that you can build on. I think his basic highlights are spot on: adrenal gland function, nutrition and supplementation, stress and sleep patterns. All good areas of inquiry, unfortunately his survey is superficial and poorly explored. This book is an OK stepping stone but not a mecca for those of us in the battle.
