4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty little Straight Razor
Really pretty, little straight razor, feels good in hand but failed to cut much on the dry shave test. Maybe a little stropping would help. Stainless steel, China

For a 7 dollar Chinese knockoff, this razor looks pretty good. It was, of course, in no way remotely sharp enough to cut even twine, let alone facial hair.

DO NOT buy this razor to shave with. It won't work. Most razors use a type of high carbon steel, not stainless steel. Unless you have hundreds of dollars worth of specialized sharpening stones and several strops packed with paste, this razor isn't getting sharp enough to shave with.

This is, however, a great razor to practice straight edge shaving with. It also looks good sitting on the counter with the other razors. It would also make a reasonable boot razor if you were so inclined.

Overall, the fit and finish are impressive for a faux razor. It looks very pretty. I enjoy seeing it on my shaving counter and it's fun to throw in my boot and pretend I'm Beatrix Kiddo's right hand man. If you want a real razor though, look at the Dovo line.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unsure about this one, March 18, 2007

I am new to straight razors. I am simply trying to trim my beard and mustache better than what electric clippers offer. This razor was extremely dull and difficult to handle. The rotation point was a little sloppy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, need a professional sharpening, November 2, 2009

This razor looks very nice for it's price, but it is barley sharp enough. Also the pivot point on mine is a little off, it hits the right side when closing.

this razor was not functional at all. the blade couldn't get sharpened and the handle is not wood, it's plastic. my husband even took it to a shop to get it sharpened and they couldn't even get it to sharpen.

When just starting, I ordered this straight razor for practice honing. I thought, if lucky, I can shave with it. Well, the honing part worked out. Shaving? Not so good for that. Never could get an adequate edge. The metal is just not good enough in my opinion.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a Straight Razor, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Natural Wood Straight Shaving Razor (Misc.)
For back of a better term, this is a Pocket Knife. The metal is not nearly strong enough to hold a true edge, nor does this razor come professionally sharpened. If you buy this razor hoping to shave your face you will be sorely mistaken.

Please look to a professional retailer of wet shaving kit for more information on straight razors before purchasing one ANYWHERE.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy, January 8, 2012

Do not buy this razor. It is not nearly sharp enough to shave with when you receive it, and it is impossible to sharpen. After reading other reviews I've decided to spend $80 on a Dovo razor, which may actually work. Meanwhile, I'm giving this one to Goodwill.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheeeep! Dont shave with it, December 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Natural Wood Straight Shaving Razor (Misc.)
Pros: its cheep
would make a good boot razor

Cons: its cheep
Blade does not match picture
The blade on the razor I received looks like like The one pictured for the Sweeney Todd razor and its shape is not suitable for shaving.
The blade is very thick for a razor and has a very steep bevel on it more like and ax than a razor.

For that price I wasn't expecting much and didn't plan to try and shave with it. I purchased it to practice my honing technique so I wouldn't ruin my nice new High quality straight razor. I used to use a Straight Razor and a Double Edged Razor back in the dark ages when in college until the day it slipped and I dropped it in the sink taking a divot out of the blade and putting a nasty chip in the sink. Sadly I couldn't afford to replace it. A few years later my DE Razor bit the dust and I started using an electric. I decided to start using a straight and DE razor again after yet another electric malfunctioned. I don't think this razor would even be good candidate to practice my honing technique. I think it will be relegated to the tool box.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT, a shaving razor..., June 1, 2011

This review is from: Natural Wood Straight Shaving Razor (Misc.)
This blade is much more of a showpiece than anything usable for shaving. If you're a collector or are putting together a corner of the bathroom for retro beauty, you could do a lot worse than this blade. The handle is not plastic as written previously, it is wood and the rivets are pretty solid but the blade is completely not suited for shaving.
