5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe ya hadda be there...., March 1, 2007

A great tour in the summer of '04 saw BNL teaming up with fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette as co-headliners for the Au Naturale Tour. Only downside to the show was that, whereas Alanis "opened", each act did an hour and a half, instead of BNL's usual 2+ hours. Nonetheless, there are numerous highlights: "War on Drugs" is exceptionally powerful done live; "Shopping", in which the boys do a complete choreographed dance number using shopping carts, and the singalong favorites "Brian Wilson" and "If I Had $1,000,000" are always a treat. The highlight in the show I saw in Detroit, saw BNL teaming with Alanis for "Call and Answer", and Alanis came out dressed as Stephen Page! It was just so funny. True there's not a lot new that separates this volume from their other live shows, but it is a rollicking good time from one of the best live bands around.

This is a nice, casual album... as usual they don't take themselves too seriously and even leave some mess-ups in there. Great rendition of some of their classics... and even a cameo by Alanis Morissette!

I was at the show that I purchased and the recording captures the energy and humor of the evening. Great versions of "Brian Wilson", "One Week" and "It's all been done" and many other BNL favorites.

4.0 out of 5 stars can't go wrong with live BNL, June 21, 2007

I have been a fan of BNL for over 13 years and am glad they came out with more live stuff. This cd gives you more of their live antics which is what alot of the concerts are about.

The only con i can say is that the sound quality is poor compared to other albums from the guys. It sound like it was recorded with an old school tape player.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good performance but sound is a bit hollow, April 6, 2010

Having never attended a live performance by BNL, this was a nice treat to get the feel of what it would be like to be in the audience. Playing the CD on my laptop, I was disappointed with the overall sound quality. The music and lyrics are all clear enough, so there's no problem with that. To me it just sounded a bit more hollow than other live albums I've listened to. A minor quibble, worth only half star deduction really.

5.0 out of 5 stars BNLs sound best live. Period., January 28, 2010

Anyone who owns Rock Spectacle can appreciate that the Bare Naked
Ladies sound best in live performances. For some reason, there
is a certain magic 'X' factor that is lost in their studio recordings.
You should not settle for the one-size-fits-all, played out versions of their songs
that are on the radio and studio version cds!
Rock Spectacle is amazing, and so is this CD (and it can complement
Rock Spectacle if you already own it because only 3 songs out of 18 overlap).
Best of all, this CD includes most of the ladies' great songs, unlike the
Michigan live CD.
Highly Recommended!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Barenaked Ladies, Bare Bones Production, February 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Au Naturale Live (Audio CD)
This chronicle of Canadian faves Barenaked Ladies' summer of 2004 US tour is as laid back and humorous as you would expect a BNL CD to be, featuring all of the signature songs such as "One Week," "Pinch Me," "Brian Wilson," "If I Were Yoko Ono" and "The Apartment Song." Released on the BNL's own label, featuring the boys in their birthday suits on the cover and available at only Indie retailers in the US, this is an almost completely hidden gem to all but the most rabid BNL fans and a good introduction for the newcomer. However it loses a star for the production quality which often sounds like the appreciative crowd is at a great distance from the stage and lacks the vibrancy and "you are there" feel with which a great live album transports the listener.
