This review is from: A Naturalist in Florida: A Celebration of Eden (Paperback)
Archie Carr was a renowned naturalist and perhaps the world's expert on marine turtles. He wrote with a lyrical simplicity that reflects the south of the early- and mid-20th century. His elegant descriptions of animals and his understated wit reveal his deep involvement with the natural world and the human processes that are now shaping it. Archie knew Florida like a native and could describe it like no one else of his generation.

I have tremendous respect for the early leaders in environmental conservation movements. Archie Carr essentially founded the sea turtle conservation program worldwide. This book provides insight into his earlier years and also describes the natural Florida environment that he observed. I deeply regret never having met Dr. Archie Carr, but I appreciate that he shared so many of his thoughts and feelings in this book.
