This review is from: A Naturalist's Guide to the Virginia Coast (Paperback)
This little book has two parts: The Processes (how things work) and The Places (islands, bays, marshes). The first part has six short chapters on people, plants, life on the tidal flats, birds, and beachcombing. The second part describes seven Virginia coastal wilderness sites from Back Bay north to Chincoteague and Assateague. It tells what to do when you visit each and even assigns each a "wilderness quotient" on a ten-point scale. I'd say it's indispensable if you plan to visit this area, want to spend some time in some one-of-a-kind environments, and want an articulate guide to help you sort it out.
