4.0 out of 5 stars Unspectacular, but solid and worthwhile
Like it or not, Dave Ralph seems to have developed a definite and identifiable style of sequencing and mixing progressive house and trance tunes. As some reviewers have commented, there is no real build-up, no climax, no frenzy. Love it or leave it, that's Ralph's style; a bit laid-back and languorous in its pacing and overall feel (though this was not so much the case...

3.0 out of 5 stars Where are we going here?
I bought this compilation in hopes that it might be on par with Max Grahm's latest on the Kinetic Label. The label is unfortunately, fairly inconsistent in terms of quality. Where max builds progressive house into a breakbeat frenzy, in which his own productions define the mixes. This mix doesn't go anywher, no climax, A very slooow buildup indeed. It's more of the same...

Like it or not, Dave Ralph seems to have developed a definite and identifiable style of sequencing and mixing progressive house and trance tunes. As some reviewers have commented, there is no real build-up, no climax, no frenzy. Love it or leave it, that's Ralph's style; a bit laid-back and languorous in its pacing and overall feel (though this was not so much the case in his "Love Parade" mix). This is actually ok with me, as variety is indeed the spice of life and I find that his selection of tracks is for the most part, first-rate. Contributing to the apparent lack of real "punch" in parts of the mix is the fact that the volume level for the sound reproduction here is noticeably low; I have had to turn the volume dial on my cd player up near full-blast to really bring out the music and its full impact.

I recommend this mix for those who enjoy a progressive sound that is shaded more toward trance than house.
I would add that since this is a 2 cd set just chock full of relatively unplayed tunes (and a few fresh remixes), it's a bargain and certainly worth picking up for fans of Digweed, Sasha, Seaman, Graham and the like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Plain Dave Ralph, October 24, 2002

I do have to say that this CD is definitly lacking the UMPH that "Tranceport 2" had. But then again, you have to think about this for a while. Davey Boy just decided to change his style a little bit. If you like the "Deep Trance" or the "Dark Trance", then this is definitly the CD for you.

It's more of the same he put out with transport 2. Recycled tunes, the best of which are too slow. Buy Jame's Holdin's Fear of a Silver Planet if you want the latest in progressive mixes.

Nice Packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bar none, best mix CD in a long time, December 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Naturalized (Audio CD)
I have listened to hundreds of mix albums from tons of DJ's. Dave Ralph seems to make the music actually sound alive for the first time. Most mix CD's consist of the build to some really fast popular track then tapers off to some stupid (...). Its not a dance CD, and not a party CD, this CD is for those people that just listen to this music. Dave makes the music ebb and flow with extra long mixes and soothing tracks, truly a great CD to listen too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the Love Parade mix, October 17, 2001

The LP mix was iffy - maybe you just had to be there. This one is much better. He's definitely improving - I prefer his Transport effort more than any of the others (have not heard IV yet), and the cd kicks in a great way with his new track.

2.0 out of 5 stars He's good live. He's horrible for compilations, June 25, 2002

Do you have the "Transport 2" comp he did a while back? Did you like it? Then by all means get this then. But it does take the darker dirtier path of prog house though. It takes time to get going. It doesn't bang up. And for some reason the sound quality for this is horrible. you got to turn up the volume more than usual just to get some bass on it.

Ok, this Dave Ralph CD is pretty tight! After listening to the Love Parade album I wasn't to impressed but this CD is very good.
I see Dave Ralph live all the time here in D.C. and he really can get the crowd going! Buy this CD you won't be dissapointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY BAD, February 21, 2002

First off, I am a DJ and consiter myself well versed in electronic music, especially trance. That said,

I've seen dave ralph on a good few occasions(he is resident DJ at a club I frequent). He has spun some excellent live sets, however this album lacks that certian UMPH. In my opinion, this album is a bit too progressive. If I ever saw anyone spin this set somewhere live, I think I would either fall asleep from boredom, or vomit or something.

If you like mad progged out (very chill) trance, then this album is for you. However, if you are like me and like music that pumps you up and makes you move, then save your money and buy something like George acosta - Release AM edition.

Just my 2 cents.
