This book was given to me as a gift and it truly is a gift that keeps on giving. I have referenced this book often and used many of the herbal remedies on myself with much success. This book is easy to read and is packed with information on safe use of healing plants.
When my friends ask me what book I recommend for wholistic health, herbalism or naturally healthy children THIS book is at the top of my list.

You will find more information packed in here than you would in five traditional childcare books. Aviva fills the pages with not only commonsense but easy-to-read-and-understand remedies for a wide array of childhood illnesses and complaints. She also includes a lot of information for expecting moms that are healthy, effective words of wisdom. If you are familiar with using herbals and a hands-on approach to illness, then this book is a refreshing compilation of information that will result in you nodding your head in agreement. It is also wonderful to have all the different illnesses and remedies in one place. No more searching for that stray note or book with one quick blurb about a possible remedy for this or that. If, on the other hand, you are not familiar with using anything but a regular doctor or over-the-counter medicine for every illness, this book will be comforting for you as well. It is not an anti-doctor approach at all; in fact there are certain areas in which Aviva mentions that using a doctor is necessary. However, she also includes things that the parent can do to accompany the doctor's techniques. Everything in this entire book is very empowering to parents and women who are expecting. Often, the first thing we are told to turn to is an over-the-counter med or a quick trip to the doctor's office, and we are left feeling helpless to comfort our children. Aviva stresses how important and powerful the mere touch of a parent is in the healing of a child, and she supports the idea that there is emotional healing to be done as well as physical healing for any illness. The herb list is extensive and there are many easy-to-follow directions for tonics, teas, washes and other healing ideas that can be made at home, even by a sleep-deprived parent.Read more ›

This is a very good reference for natural remedies, however, I was hoping it would have some information about immunizations and it did not.

This is a very informative book however, if you are not willing to go purchase a bunch of herbs and prepare tinctures to have them ready "in case of emergency" then don't bother with this book. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's not for everyone.

I love this book! When I was pregnant I bought it, knowing I wanted to raise my daughter the 'natural' way. I reference this book OFTEN. It is the first place I go to whenever wanting to find out information about an illness or symptom. I have tried many of its remedies successfully, including those for acid reflux, chronic constipation, colds, indigestion, bruises, teething, colic and some more, both on the baby and myself. This book is truly a gem.
You can learn all about herbal remedies, how to make them yourself, and how they work. The author describes different herbs, their properties and uses.
Whether you are a new mom, or an experienced one, this book has valuable and practical information to aid you in keeping your little ones and whole family naturally healthy. I consider this book a 'must-have.'

If you prefer not to call the Pediatrician at the first sign of trouble this book is a wonderful reference. Helps to calm the fears at 2 am. And there are NO antibiotic recommendations any where in this book! Amazing. Highly recommend

The book came in excellent condition, faster than expected. This has helped me tremendously with my children and even myself, I'm grateful for the authors insight. The only thing that she didn't mention (which I was shocked) was to give your teething baby red raspberry leaf tea. When rubbed on their gums they will not only calm down immediately, but you could also rub the tea on your sore breast feed nipples (encouraging your breast to produce more milk). Here is the recipe: boil a whole kettle of about 3.5 to 4 cups of water, after your kettle is steaming and screaming place the water in a pitcher, then put 2 tbs. of red raspberry leaves in a tea ball (I buy the bags of it from my local health food store, and I mean really cheap) let steep until it is a dark greenish brown color or let it stand about thirty minutes or so; take out the ball and you got a great teething solution. If you would like a smaller batch cut the recipe in half. I make so much because I drink the tea also. I Hope this helps.
