Okay, I have to admit I was a little bit miffed when I first got the product and realized I had to go through a bunch of hoops to verify my student identity. However, I made one quick call to the company and they took care of this problem immediately by e-mailing me a unlock code. After this it was a simple matter of installing the program, dictating a few sample paragraphs, and then going to work. I was amazed at the accuracy of the program after only a few minutes of use. It had no problem picking out and spelling words such as cardiomyopathy, left atrial myxoma, and other very specific medical terms. As part of the installation process, it does review your documents on your computer and this may explain its ability to recognize all the specific medical terms that I use frequently. However, I have found that it even recognizes medical terms that I know I have not used previously. I have never used prior versions of Dragon so I cannot comment on the difference between prior versions. All I can say is that this program has worked excellent for me so far.

I tend to talk fast and mumble a bit and run my words together. Once, I got the hang of talking to Dragon, he and I seem to be on the same page most of the time. When, I am tired, well lets just say, I've learned a few new words. As long as you speak clearly and at an even tone this program is great for typing in word and e-mail programs. Sucks in Excel, and takes over the +/- keys on my wireless numeric keypad. Corrections seem to take time, though some are relatively quick. I think that it's me. There seem to be less mistakes every day.

I normally do not rate a product because of a problem outside of the functionality of the product itself. But the verification process that Dragon has for the Student Edition needs to be changed. It simply pisses off a customer who just dropped $100 on their software.

You cannot install the product without a serial number. You need to submit verification to a third party website to get the serial number, if there is a problem of any sort, they do not respond in a timely fashion - if at all. If Dragon was wise, they should allow you to at least install the product and have it functional for 30 days. This will allow you to use the product until you can get by the labyrinth of requirements to get the serial number. This way you can use the product when it arrives at your door.

After 5 days of sheer frustration, I returned the software and I am using the native speech recognition in Windows 7. Nuance is $100 poorer for it and I will never buy another one of their products until they change this horrible process to install their product.
