Editorial Reviews

Explore the hidden lives of three of the most dangerous predators on the planet with NATURE's Big Cats. Featuring some of the most fearsome and beautiful big cats - lions, leopards, and tigers - these four films explore the cats' struggle for survival and our ongoing fascination with these incredible creatures. Elsa's Legacy: Behind the wildly popular Born Free book and movie lies the real story of the orphaned lion cub, Elsa, raised by George and Joy Adamson before being released back in the wild. Now, a rare glimpse into the diaries, home movies, and detailed records the couple kept reveals an intimate look at their pioneering work and our appreciation for the animal kingdom. Revealing the Leopard: Leopards are the ultimate cat - the most feline, the most intelligent, the most dangerous, and one of the least understood. From the Middle East to Sri Lanka, see how these most cunning of cats rarely move without a premeditated strategy. Siberian Tiger Quest: Hunted almost to extinction, the last wild Siberian tigers can only be found in the forests of the far eastern Russian frontier. Ecologist Chris Morgan embarks on a challenge that will fulfill a lifelong dream - to find and film a Siberian tiger living wild and free in these forests. The White Lions: White lions are among the rarest and most treasured animals in the world, though their ghostly color is both a blessing and a curse due to their high visibility. Follow the story of two remarkable white lion cubs as they struggle for survival on the savanna.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, just wonderful! June 27, 2014
By JPX925
This is a 4 part DVD set. The first one was relating the true story of Elsa, a lion raised in captivity that bonded with a human husband and wife team. There might have been controversies as to the why and how of the things that the couple did for the lions but my guess is that this happened at a time when humans were just beginning to understand lions. The second and third part were about the lives of Lions and Leopards (respectively) in the wild. Fascinating, captivating, gripping! I found myself holding my breath watching the hunting scenes between predators and preys and the confrontation/stand off scenes between the predators themselves. The fourth DVD related the experiences of a Korean man trying to film the Siberian Tiger in the wild. He spent years in the cold Siberian wild by himself, several months at a time, and have put together countless hours of footage of three generations of Siberian Tigers. His stories of the tigers didn't always have a happy ending, but such is life for the animals in the wild. What was deeply saddening though was that in a number of instances, the wild animals' demise was due to greedy human poachers. Watching these DVDs will give you an understanding and appreciation of the magnificent animals of the wild, their prowess and strengths as well as their struggles to survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gift March 19, 2014
Verified Purchase
I bought this for my grandson who loves anything to do with the big cats. He really liked it and that is just what I look for in a gift. This had four stories from the PBS Nature series and he really liked it a lot. I am always on the lookout for big cat items and this was a very good find.
