5.0 out of 5 stars Consciousness and Reality. The final word?, March 27, 2002
This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
Few people are brave enough to tackle any subject in the title let alone all subjects in one book. Mr. Wheatley tackles the subjects of Consciousness and Reality head on and then cobbles them together with religion and philosophy to come up with a Theory of Everything equation and a meaning for life. A mammoth task. He does all this with much enthusiasm having spent over thirty years of full time work researching his subject. His mantra is " The problem is not what people believe. The problem is that they believe." Information, according to the author, comes from two sources. Knowledge and belief. Knowledge corresponds to Reality. Belief, on the other hand, stems from lack of understanding and ignorance. Belief fills the knowledge void where knowledge is lacking. The author relies heavily on science for verification of his beliefs and acquisition of knowledge. After culling much of the humbug from religion and philosophy, he then puts the jigsaw together and comes up with some very interesting conclusions.

Not everyone will agree with his conclusions. The book is ultimately just one man's (informed) opinion. Early in the book we are suddenly told, without explanation that "consciousness, mind and brain are separate." Knowledge or belief? Dualism is currently unfashionable in scientific circles and many regard consciousness as a neurobiological function of the brain. A biological phenomenon akin to digestion or bile excretion. Dualism is regarded as the outmoded legacy of religion and mythology.

On religion the author exhibits a western and cultural bias by spending a great many pages on a skeptical analysis of Christianity. Buddhism, which shares the same intellectual existentialist leanings as the author and draws very similar conclusions, is dismissed in a page-and-a-half brief synopsis.

Is this the final word on Consciousness and Reality? No! The book leaves one with the feeling that science, religion and philosophy fall way short of the mark. The author takes us a lot closer to understanding key concepts but not far enough. The incomprehensible remains, for the time being, just that.

The book is extremely well written and teases the brain at many levels. For anyone looking for cerebral stimulation and a possible meaning in his/her life, this could be the book you have been looking for.

The author attempts to prove his own "Theory of Everything", making many mathematical blunders while trying to discredit history's greatest mathematicians.

According to this book, Cantor was wrong.

From page 476:

"Cantor attempted to understand infinity. He used the method of diagonalization. Diagonalization combines and alters 'selected' numbers from an array of numbers to obtain a number not previously represented. We cannot combine things into something else without those things being yanked from their former position. The Law of Conservation (typically used in physics) does not permit addition without something else changing. This idea applies to numbers. If we yank a number from an array, thus altering it, its original setting (array) is changed. The whole setup becomes other than what it once was. The linear series of numbers or things is changed."

This is one of the more bizarre arguments I've read. Cantor's diagonalization argument does not require the numbers in the array to be changed; it creates a new number based on the numbers in the array without affecting them. It is simply an existence proof, proving the existence of a number not listed on an infinite array (without need of yanking). Furthermore, the laws of conservation are physical laws, applicable to physical systems, not arithmetic. The author does not specify which conservation law this would be in contradiction of, presumably because of how absurd it would sound: "You can't add these numbers because it violates the law of conservation of energy."

Russell's paradox was not a paradox:

"We remember from high school that a null set is, by fiat, also a member of itself. ... We conclude from considering null sets that `there is no set, which is not a member of itself.' Now, we can clearly see Russell's Paradox arose because the `hidden' empty set was not considered. There is no paradox."

But the null set is not a member of itself. The null set by definition has no members. The author is probably thinking of subsets: it is true that the null set is a subset of itself, but this does not resolve Russell's Paradox.

Gödel was also wrong:

"According to Gödel, by using the definition of logical consistency, i.e., the Law of Contradiction, a system cannot be both complete and consistent. ... Many scholars have since accepted that any (well-formed) system could not be both complete and consistent. Yet, it still seems reasonable that a system cannot be complete unless it is also consistent. Here is why: Saying a system is complete, only when it is inconsistent (and hence contradictory) makes no sense at all."

It actually makes perfect sense, since from a contradiction all theorems are derivable in a classical logical system (thus it is complete). To prove any given statement 'q', assuming the contradiction 'p and ~p':

p and ~p

p

p or q

~p

q

If you want to read 800 pages on Gödel, Cantor, consciousness and Zen, read "Gödel, Escher, Bach" rather than or before this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Important Book, January 26, 2004
By

This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
I must preface my review by stating that I have never been so excited and moved by a book that I have wanted to contact the author. That is what I found myself doing upon reading this book. This book is just what its title says. The author does not "miss a beat" describing in great detail using practically every aspect of scientific knowledge from atomic structure through logic to quantum theory---we are even given a valuable explanation of Love. This text may be challenging to read for those unfamiliar with scientific terminology. And it can also be difficult for those with a science background, such as myself. However, for me it is well worth the work necessary to strive to understand the unfamiliar terminology. (I am continually learning from this book. I am presently on my third reread).

One of the author's main messages is "not" to believe anything without first verifying it with reality, as we know it. He calls it the "Personal Explanation Principle". He indicates that religions are just such belief systems that we as people "fall" victims of; because we do not verify the beliefs with the facts, as we know them, of reality. He gives a very detailed explanation of how the New Testament can be explored using his methodology.

The author methodically and meticulously walks us through his thought processes, which took 30 years to assimilate, of delineating the structure of reality and the nature of consciousness. Included in the "walk" are many of reality's phenomena made revelatory. An example of that, for me, would be the dual nature of light. It's particle/wave duality, which is explained as "functions". Also, when the author took me on the mental journey of "Setness" an exhilaration of the magnificence of life swelled up in me.

To me this is a very important book that should be read by all that are seekers of truth. It is for all those wanting to gain an understanding of the purpose for their existence, wanting to know where life is headed towards, and wanting to know who God is.

This book will enlighten and develop one's mind substantially. You will discover that this is our objective.

And yes, I contacted the author and he responded openly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary, December 19, 2001

This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
Most of my life, I searched for a way to understand this thing called life. Society often pushes us in directions other than ones leading to truth. What was taught by my peers, parents, and teachers, didn't really answer my questions.

The last 12 years, after retiring, I began a serious study to better understand life and reality. During this time, I read about 200 books of various interests and disciplines.

This is not the easiest book I ever read. I am not a scientist. I had to adjust my understanding to the scientific vernacular. I had to carefully read every word, sentence and paragraph. If not for my prior reading and study, I am not sure I could have understood it.

When I was about three fourths of the way through this book, I became aware that it was the last book I would need to complete my quest to understand life and reality. It is an advanced study of everything.

The book entails an intellectual journey of the author that reminds me of a plaque my daughter gave me. "Do not follow where the Path may lead; instead,
go where there is no Path, and leave a trail."

This tome is tremendous. I was overwhelmed by the capacity of subjects and information brought together in this book. It brings science and religion together. The time is right for this book. It signals the next leap in scientific understanding.

A book like this needs to be read as many times as possible. It is one of the most fascinating books that I have read.

This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
A landmark book that will change the understanding of reality and affect the general perception of science and religion. Pertinent principles of physics are conceptually linked to different hierarchical levels. This logical framework is superimposed upon a why-what paradigm.

Wheatley solves problems associated with understanding time and describes how everything interrelates. Then it gets interesting. He recognizes that the structure of everything does not answer all questions. He throws all the big questions of philosophy, religion and the remaining scientific questions at the structure to see what else can be learned and he gets results.

Jerry Wheatley redefines space by reformulating the understanding of zero (signifying the cosmological singularity). That leads him to the single fundamental principle underlying all arithmetic. He turns that principle around and applies it to physics where it easily unifies relativity with quantum theory.

This book has far-reaching implications and could well signal the culmination of science. I highly recommend it to serious truth seekers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patterns for Behavioral Studies, December 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
Mr. Wheatley has touched upon one of the most intriguing methods, through scientific study and evalution, that leads to new deductions for behavioral patterns. Many books have been written for sociological, psychological, cultural, and behavioral studies, of which I have a deep interest. However, as you are led step by step through the scientific processes of this book, one's perspective of human behavior will take on a whole new meaning. Such questions as "why do people behave the way they do?", or "How do cultural, geographical, sociological factors impact our behavior?" take on a whole new perspective for study and evaluation. This book could become required text at the college level for scientific studies. I was fascinated with several concepts put forth by Mr. Wheatley.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal, September 24, 2006

Bruno "seeker of TRUTH" (Lilburn, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
Although Mr. Wheatley is a little verbose in sections, his documentation of Zen Buddhistic Principles found throughout the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics, Theology, etc. forms a nice reference guide for anyone tuned into that wavelength. In particular, his explanation of how Godel's Theorem and Cantor's "Confusion" shed great light on the difference between GOD's Logic and Man's Logic should be a revelation to any undergraduate level math students who encounter these ideas for the first time. Curiously, Mr. Wheatley makes many misstatements about both Zen Buddhism Principles and the Bible, however. For example, by accepting the false biblical teaching of Original Sin, he misses the point that eating the proverbial apple gave Adam and Eve the ability to make Moral Discernments in fulfillment of GOD'S PERFECT PLAN. As proof, read Genesis 1 which states that Man and Woman were made in GOD's Image. Genesis 4 shows that Adam and Eve weren't the first humans on Earth at all, there were plenty of others by then. The allegorical meaning of the story of Eden, then, isn't that Adam and Eve were the first humans on Earth, but they were the first humans with the ability to make Moral Discernments (in GOD's Image). In fact, Moral Discernment is God's Unique Gift to Man, which is the basis of consciousness, not some Math Formula. But because the wages of the resulting, unavoidable sin are Death, many people foolishly try to return to Eden by: (1) living a sinless Life (2) by removing choice altogether by passing and enforcing strict Laws (3) by attempting to do away with Moral Discernment and the resulting consequences for our actions altogether by trying to remove Shame from Shameful actions. GOD is not some ethereal Man-In-Space, but is simply the Totality of all Real Things, The Set of All Real Sets. GOD's Love manifests itself from the amazing sub-atomic relationships that underly this magic Life all the way to the grandest of Macroscopic Scales, the Interconnected Totality itself. The Zen Buddhism connection can be found by simply superimposing the 0 symbol and the symbol for infinity (8 on its side) in Mr. Wheatley's supposedly "new" formulation that 1 = 0 x infinity. Superimposing them gives you the yin-yang symbol. A potential disadvantage of artificially separating the infinity from the zero, however, is that Mr. Wheatley is able to equate the entire expression to be equal to 1. This potentially might obscure the fact that the deepest meaning of the yin-yang symbol is that it is both 2 and 1 AT THE SAME TIME. His overall equation does preserve that important meaning by utilizing a single element on one side of the equation and two elements on the other side of his final TOE equation. This may be hard to see for some at first, however, which could potentially obscure the richest meaning of this beautiful symbol/equation. A much more GODLY TOE, in my opinion, comes from Euler, who discovered that e ^ (i * pi) - 1 = 0. When someone can explain that relationship, then they can say they know GOD.

This review is from: The Nature of Consciousness : The Structure of Reality: Theory of Everything Equation Revealed : Scientific Verification and Proof of Logic God Is (Hardcover)
This is a fabulous guidebook to the Here and Now. It is obviously a work consciously inspired and directed from beyond our immediate and apparent purview.Extraordinary experiences which seemingly defy explanation require extraodinary research. After thirty years of being driven by Zero, Higgs Boson, Spatiality, Singularity, God Consciousness, desiring to be known,Jerry Davidson Wheatley has revealed WHAT IS. The reader at first finds himself stunned by the unfamiliar terminology and concepts in the opening chapters of the book. However, as one is led logical step by logical step by the author through an amazing labyrinth of induction, one's own intelligence level rises to comprehend the most eoteric of all knowledge. This book will rank as the definitive text for all serious students of consciousness. It will hold center stage on bookshelves among the Kabbalah, Upanishids, the Vedas, the Bible, and every major scientific text which are extensions of this work. This is the "future work" which "pulled" these lower level texts negentropically to rejoin the "Answer to Everything." Everything about this book: its WHATNESS, its WHYNESS, is the Virtual Image of its Creator. It is the Ark of Phase I which will carry us to Phase II. Jerry Davidson Wheatley is its Noah.
