The song styles range from Rock 'n' Roll anthems to sea shanties, Jazz to Folk and feature guest artists such as Brandi Carlisle, Mike Mills (of R.E.M.) Getting kids outdoors and active is more of a challenge than ever. Computer games, TV, after school activities and increased academics can take up a young child's time, completely robbing him of the chance to play outdoors and enjoy nature. Some studies show that these indoor activities contribute to the development of ADD and ADHD. Waldkindergarten (in Germany) and Forest Kindergarten (in the U.S.) where children attend preschool and kindergarten completely outdoors are meant to offer an alternative to the indoor schools, and to combat what some call "nature deficit disorder". Studies show that children who participate in outdoor schools show significant improvement in reading, writing, math, and social skills. They also show an increased attention span. Even if you don't have a Forest Kindergarten in your community, you can get your kids excited about nature and moving outdoors with Farmer Jason!! My kindergartener LOVES this CD (especially Dison the Bison-- it cracks him up). We listen to this CD on our way to go hiking (we sing "Take a Hike") or on our way to ski on our local glacier, the Zugspitze ("The Glacier"). This CD will enrich your child's experience of the outdoors and even give you some good ideas for other outdoor activities! Get your child outdoors and moving-- I'm sure our First Lady would agree!!

While listening to Farmer Jason's Nature jams and reading the liner notes I couldn't quite believe I was holding something like this in my hands. Much like his Rockin' In the Forest CD Farmer Jason has produced another fabulous musical journey that adults will enjoy listening to as much as their children and grandchildren. The songs, production and performances are inventive, entertaining and top notch. But what is so amazing is the stellar guest list, a virtual who's who of American music over the last 30 years. Mike Mills (REM), Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick), Tommy Ramone (The Ramones), Todd Snider and a plethora of other stars lend their talents in joyous abandon on this remarkable CD. It sounds like they all had a heck of a good time, just like everyone who has the pleasure of listening to this CD will. Farmer Jason opens us to new possibilities for children's music, beyond simple, repetitive entertainment. It exposes us all to new instruments, guitar tonality and sounds, unique band configurations and of course, a bonding experience via parents and grandparents' musical heroes. Highly recommended for everyone.

Farmer Jason and Buddies deliver a top notch combination of storytelling and singing that makes us want to get outside and enjoy nature. My kids' favorites are Prairie Riddles and Can You Canoe? They request this CD regularly in the car. It's a CD the whole family gets into: singing at the top of our lungs and discussing nature.
