Sam-E has worked well for me, after I knew how to take it properly that is. I took it for about 2 weeks before I actually did some reading about it and knew I was doing many things wrong. Including making the wrong purchase. Any brand will probably do, (as long as it is made properly, see #2 below) but I have found Nature Made to be the best selection when it came to purchasing Sam-E. (Yes, I have actually bought and tried the 200mg tablets) No matter what brand you buy, you have to give it TIME to work. 7-10 days is the timeframe that it will typically start to work in, but I have heard of occasions where it has taken longer. After 12 days if you have seen no positive change in mood, up the dose. Eventually, work your way up to taking 1200mg of Sam-E daily for best results.

Stomach Cramps and even the possibility of ulcers be a serious problem for people taking Sam-E. I have compiled a list of precautions and things you can do to prevent this:

1) Make sure you take this product on an EMPTY STOMACH. An empty stomach means not having eaten anything for roughly an hour. The best time to take this is in the morning, right after waking up. Finally, make sure you do not eat for at least 30 MINUTES after taking Sam-e. More time may be required as you take more of the supplement.

2) Do NOT purchase Sam-E tablets that are not enteric coated and are not in a box/blister wrap. The Entric coating prevents the pills from being absorbed by your body until they reach the lower intestine which will prevent a majority of stomach cramps and stomach pains. Not only this, but it will prevent the Sam-E from being dissolved in the stomach which renders it virtually useless.

Also, On a lot of the "Product Ads from External Websites," I have seen a lot of retailers trying to hawk Sam-E in bottles...NOT ok! It is a BIG mistake to buy Sam-E in bottles, I won't get onto it here but you can google it and you will see why. It must be blister wrapped for ultimate freshness!

I was a little doubtful about taking this supplement, but I have been suffering from mild depression and sleeplessness and didn't want to start on a prescription antidepressant. After a week of taking this product, I found that I was handling stess much better than usual. I encountered an extremely difficult situation in my personal life and found that I did not "go to pieces," but handled it in a calm and confident manner. I didn't even cry (which would normally have been my first response). I am also sleeping better and feeling more rested. I plan to continue taking this supplement.

I gave SAM-e a try, and bought this Nature Made Complete brand (200 mg). I noticed a positive difference in my mood and energy level. I don't mean that I felt an overwhelming since of euphoria or anything like that...at least that wasn't the case from my experience. The difference was subtle, yet noticiable. I didn't tell my wife I had started taking it, yet she also noticed the difference. I decided to keep taking it, and switched over to Source Naturals, a slightly less expensive option at the time.

I do believe there is a difference in what you get. I have noticed no benefit at all from the Source Naturals brand. I'll continue to take it since I paid for it, but I wish I had stayed with Nature Made and will switch back over to them once these are gone. (no, I do not work for Nature Made!)

Several years ago I had a sudden flare up of sciatica with pain in my lower back and down my right leg. It was difficult to sit or walk and nothing seemed to be helping. I've been taking 2 tabs daily now and have been pain free nearly 3 years. What a relief!

Writing as an ex-Army officer and a retired university professor who has had three serious surgeries and suffered more than a dozen deaths of family members and friends in the past decade, some of my depression was "situational." Additionally, for over 60 years I had also suffered from a relatively mild chronic depression that I self-treated with exercise, music, and meditation.

About three years ago, my own remedies were no longer sufficent--a dozen times a day I would find myself thinking or whispering to myself, "I wish I were just dead." By luck, I stumbled across an article that mentioned SAM-e, and by further luck I had a friend (a neuro-scientist at Stanford Univ.) that I could e-mail and ask if he'd ever heard of it. He replied that Richard Brown, a friend of his at Cornell Univ., had co-written a book, STOP DEPRESSION NOW, which would give me more answers than he could. I bought the book, read it, and then tried SAM-e.

I began with 200 mg. of SAM-e, and within two weeks my depression was greatly relieved--it was as if a heavy layer of ice which was pressing down on the roof of a house had suddenly melted and slid off. Within four weeks, at a slightly higher dosage of SAM-e, my depression was totally gone. Of course problems and feelings of grief were still there, but I was able to deal with them without dark feelings of hopelessness getting in my way.

Very properly, Nature Made has put a "CAUTION" notice on the side of the box: "People with bipolar (manic) depression should not take this or any other product containing SAM-e except under a doctor's supervision." HOWEVER, the print is rather small--my recommendation is that they state this warning in larger, bold-face type.

In my judgment, based on my experience, SAM-e deserves to be awarded 10 stars.

I had heard how SAM-e helped with mood. I need it during that blessed PMS time of the month and wanted to try it. It took me a long time to finally do it and now I don't think I will ever stop using SAM-e. It not only helped with my mood, but also with minor aches and pains in my joints.
Try it, it may work for you. If it doesn't, well, at least you tried.

I have been taking the Sam-e tablets for 9 days now. I looked into this because I have been experiencing some mild to moderate depression and it has been hard for me to function lately. I wouldn't say that I'm "happier" or that my mood has changed much. The Sam-e, however, has given me more energy. I am awake as soon as the alarm goes off and I feel a little more "wired" going about the day. As far as changing my mood? It hasn't really affected it at all...

I'm sure this helps a lot of people and I did notice my husband had more energy, but increased his already daily headaches, so sadly had to discontinue.

I have taken this product every day for about two years. I have not had any side effects. I can tell that it has helped my mood tremendously. This supplement is one of the tools I use along with some natural sunlight and exercise to help me stay positive and feeling well. On days when I forget it, I can tell a definite lessening of my sense of well being. I highly recommend it.

I've been taking for over a year. After about a month of using this (at half recommended dose even) I noticed the pain from my arthritis subside. I was completely convinced after I went without it for a week when on vacation, and could feel a difference--I missed it! I notice no side effects.
