Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2-- Photographs and a concise text encourage children to take a closer : look at the natural world as a young girl calls attention to the sizes, shapes, and patterns found in plants and animals. Large print and abundant white space bring focus to crisp, full-color photographs juxtaposed so that readers can easily relate the subject in its natural setting to a sometimes greatly magnified closeup. Seeds, feathers, the eye of a frog, a spider's web, and a butterfly wing are examined. Clarification of less-easily identified objects is provided. Nature Spy reverses the style used by Tana Hoban in Look Again! (Macmillan, 1971), which proceeds from a closeup view to the total object. The book is simple enough for beginning readers to handle independently, but has enough content for adults to share one-on-one or in small groups. An especially good choice to present before taking a walk with a group of youngsters. --Diane Nunn, Richard E. Byrd Elementary School, Glen Rock, NJ

This review is from: Nature Spy (Hardcover)
This book, with actual photographs, is an excellent book to use with primary age children. Children can discover the patterns in nature by seeing objects up-close.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good early childhood book for parents to read to child or in classroom, March 17, 2011
This review is from: Nature Spy (Hardcover)
Kind, interesting picture book for children. Parents can read this to Pre-K children, or Kindergarten and first grade children can read themselves. Good photos, close ups on interesting things such as flowers, dog's hair, birds feathers. Nice text, simple for children. Good for early childhood classroom or for parents to read to children. Primary reading book. Point of criticism, the first close up on the flower isn't the best quality, the other pictures are of good quality.
