5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book, August 18, 2009

We are new to Southern Indiana, and have used the book to find very beautiful sights. I just love it here and have this book to thank. Yes, we failed to find a foot bridge at one sight, but the book was written nearly 20 years ago. Time changes everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful guide to hiking opportunities in S. Indiana, October 23, 2005

Nature lovers living in southern Indiana or those who plan on spending some time there will find this book indispensable. Divided into three regions (Southeastern Plains, South Central Uplands, and Southwestern Lowlands), over 200 natural areas are fully described in terms of size, location, hiking trails, camping oportunities, wildlife, and points of interest. National and state forests of many thousands of acres as well as small nature preserves of only a few hundred are all included. Many topo maps highlighting specific trails and forest areas are also here. Finally, the book has a fair share of photos too. Published by the Hoosier Chapter of the Sierra Club. An excellent guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nature Walks in Southern Indiana, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Nature Walks in Southern Indiana (Paperback)
This book may have some useful information, but I also think that this author does not check his facts. He mentions the Grove of All Faiths on Indiana University's campus and there is no such place. You can do a search for this term on www.iub.edu and there is nothing anywhere on the site about such a place. I am a graduate student at IU and have taken tours of campus. I have never heard a tour guide refer to the area beside Beck Chapel as the Grove of All Faiths. Also, he mentions several old growth forests in Southern Indiana. In order to be considered old growth, the trees must be anywhere from 150 to 200 years old and that isn't the case with any of the forests mentioned in his book. Mr. McPherson also spells Bean Blossom as one word when it is actually two words.
