no regrets despite the price October 20, 2010
I have no regrets purching this product. I bought it from amazon thinking that I could return it if I didn't like it because I had not heard of the manufacturers company before. But low and behold it has been a very good product and I have called their customer service with questions before and they were very nice. You will still need the giant leaf pile outside because this machine is too small for that. I do NOT recommend buying a giant composter for outside - that is just a waste of money. Pile up the leaves, water them down once in a while, and they will melt down to mother nature all by themselves given enough time and fresh air.

I have not had any problems with the motor or jams. I have the newer one - the XE - which is has the bigger motor. You have to follow the instructions, and then it works flawlessly.

makes great compost December 14, 2010
By Jes
Pros:
Makes really great compost
Composts quickly (2-3 weeks)
You can keep adding to it
Low maintenance (it turns on its own)

Cons:
It is smelly (I keep mine out on the back porch)
Best for just 1 person (not big enough for a household's kitchen scraps)
If you fill it full, it doesn't stir everything in and gets moldy inside around the high edges
Pricey

Mine does get jammed, but I'm impressed how the spinner reverses direction, tries a few mores times and eventually stops so as not to burn out the motor. It turns on a blinking red light to alert you if there is a jam. You'll have to check on it especially within the first couple days of a new batch. I'm fine with stirring up the occasional clog with a garden shovel. Also, you are supposed to add sawdust pellets with every new batch, but I find that isn't necessary so long as I keep half the compost from the old batch. Overall I'm happy with it, and have very little garbage now.

easy way to reduce trash November 27, 2010
This machine is very easy to use. I have been using it for almost two years. There is less trash to take out now every week. Also it is good for the environment and good for your plants. So you can feel good about using it!

One thing I noticed when using it is very good with coffee grounds. They disappear into dirt within a day or so. Sometimes that's all we add if we are busy and eat out a lot. It also does a fine job on vegetables, egg shells, and meat, although those take a few days to be fully composted down to dirt. We have not added any pet poop because we have not pet but I hear it can compost that also. Also we have not tried fish but supposedly it does that without any smell. By the way there is basically no smell if you follow the instructions. And it does jam occasionally if you over load it but eventually it will all get ground down within a few days, which is faster than a typical compost pile.
