When looking for a bedside lamp for our new home, energy efficiency was a major priority. Inefficient lamps radiate too much heat. We could have used a standard lamp and a CFL bulb that would produce an adequate amount of light, but we really wanted something that was dimable and would produce a very direct light for reading in bed. We don't always fall asleep at the same time, and wanted a lamp that would not keep the other awake. The Koolight is what we were looking for and more! It's easy to use, and very adjustable. We will get another for our daughter and use the "sunset" feature at bedtime to keep her from sitting up too late reading.We've never liked waking up to noise, the idea of waking to gradually increase light sounds much better.

I ordered this lamp after trying the Verilux Rise and Shine. I had high hopes of waking to it, and couldn't wait to try it after receiving it tonight. I plugged it in and was shocked to discover when I turned it on - the light is rather hideously flourescent. I spend 8 hours a day in an artificially lit office with no natural light, the last thing I want is to wake up to that obviously fake light shining in my face first thing in the morning. The Verilux has a very natural and warm glow where this is bright, white and harsh - looks like a plant growing light. Technically, though, it does work great. The clock and alarm are remarkably easy to set, the fading of the light on and off is really nice. The other downside is that the light is very specific - if it's on your nightstand and you sleep on your side, your back better not be turned to it. It's a task light, not a room-brightening lamp. It would be best suited if set behind your headboard to shine directly over your full face. I am sending mine back tomorrow and going back to the Verilux (which I thought was not quite up to snuff, but I've yet to find anything as lovely to wake to).

Planned obsolescence? Individual lights began giving out, until only about half of them worked. Then the alarm/time became unresponsive to input which renders the thing good for an awkward paperweight. I can only hope the design quality has improved. It couldn't have been worse for mine.

I just got this lamp and am really impressed. It doesn't take up a lot of space. The option to dim the light very low works well and is very handy. It can be adjusted it to several angles, the buttons are simple and can be found in the dark easily. It is more attractive on a bedside stand than other sunrise type lamps. This is a very good product.

Living in cold/dark Wisconsin I have been considering buying a dawn simulator for a few years. This one was available with Prime shipping and though the price was a lot for a lamp it seemed reasonable for a dawn simulator(at least compared to the alternatives...) There were a number of not great reviews, but they seemed to kind of miss the point so I thought I'd give it a try as Amazon has amazing customer service, so I wasnt afraid of being stuck with a paper weight.

The pros; it does slowly turn on at the time I set, and after using it for one morning I can honestly say a dawn simulator is awesome if you wake up before the sun or are in a location that doesnt get much sun(or any) in the morning.
The Blue back light is bright and vivid.

The cons; it took probably 10-15 minutes of hitting the clock button before it would actually let me set the clock.
Additionally the lcd display is one of those super cheap ones and must be set in the plastic incorrectly because anytime I press a button, one half of the display either goes blank or activates every character. If you have any experience with cheap LCDs youll know what I mean. I have no faith that the display wont just stop working one day.
The display has a very narrow angle of view, my bed is about 4" below my night stand so you cant actually read the display.
If you look at the pictures closely there are only 4 LEDs so it is just barely bright enough to use as a reading light(im only 30 so I dont have any eye issues yet) also the color of the LEDs is either bright white(which appears blue) or blue which I didnt have a problem with but might not be what you are expecting.
The final thing I have a problem with is there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the audio alarm, it would be nice to select only light, only audio, or both.



This lamp does what it says, however it seems they spared every expense when sourcing components, so I would expect to pay no more than $30-$35 retail for this, and if that was the case I would be keeping it, but since I paid double I will be returning it for a higher quality item. I would rather pay more for something that will last.

The light really helps with waking up on dark mornings. The light can be adjusted to face many different ways.

This light is so cool as it can be set to slowly go down as a sunset and come on slowly for a sunrise. It wakes me up every morning and as we settle in at night we don't have to turn the light off as it slowly just goes off.
Great and what we expected in the product.

In short, I like this lamp and would recommend it. It is easy to use and I really like the fact that it's a dimmable desk type lamp with a built in alarm clock. For the price, it's awesome.

I really like this lamp, I bought it because I was looking for a better way to wake up then the annoying, loud buzzing or normal alarm clocks. I mostly got it because the price was reasonable. It seemed like all other "light" alarm clocks were VERY expensive. I have been using this one for about 4 week now and real complaints. The back-up sound alarm is a little odd, I think it's supposed to sound like birds chirping, but it is a little cheesy, but not nearly as bad as a standard buzzing noise, plus I am always awake from the light by the time the sound goes off anyways. My husband is a little harder to wake up then me, so he still uses the old alarm clock as a back up, so just something to consider if you are a very hard sleeper / hard waker.

Do not buy this lamp. Mine lasted one year. The small lights went out and the arm would not stay up. I bought it at my co-op and had to throw it away. Stay Away!

My problem: I have never been able to wake up quickly or get up on time. The gradual brightening of this light really helps me wake up, and so does the electronic bird chirping. Now, if I try to ignore the chirping, my dog objects and taps the mattress with his paw until I get up. Recently, I heard a live bird sing almost the identical tune.

I twist the light to aim it at my pillow - I wish it was a little brighter at full, so I gave it 4 stars instead of the full 5. I've used this for several months, waiting to review it until I tested it thouroughly. I read a lot of reviews before I bought it, and I'm glad I chose this one.
