I bought 2 because I always need a back up. I have now washed these several times and they have stayed soft and true to form/fit. It is soft and I feel great knowing it's not filled with chemicals.

This review is from: Naturepedic Waterproof Fitted Crib Pad, 28x52 (Baby Product)
I've used this pad for over a year in my child's crib. It is soft and thick and fits well. It is waterproof as claimed. (If you're curious about the waterproof coating they use, here is some info:[...])
Big downside: This thing takes forever to dry after washing. Far longer in the dryer than anything else in the laundry. And if you don't get it very dry, it quickly mildews. Once I left it overnight after washing in the machine and it already smelled of mildew the next morning. Twice I attempted to air-dry it after washing and ended up with a mildewy pad that I had to re-wash and rinse with added vinegar. If you live in a very dry climate and can hang it in the sun, it might be okay. But in our more humid climate, all I can do is put it in the (energy-hungry) dryer for a looong time. Bummer.

peace of mind,

I was hesitant to spend so much money on a mattress cover, but was happy to see a big difference in quality from other mattress covers I have owned. The material was much thicker and more substantial. Knowing that the cover does not contain any harsh chemicals brings me peace of mind since my newborn daughter will be sleeping on it for many hours. I was surprised by the odd odor the cover had when it arrived. I washed it in All Free and the odor came right out. It made a lot of fuzz in my washer/dryer the first time I washed it so I'm a little worried about how it will hold up - haven't yet washed it again to know how that will go.

Naturepedic Waterproof Fitted Crib Pad,

We have the Naturepedic crib mattress, as well as the Naturepedic waterproof crib pad. We have the full mattress pad on the mattress, then the portacrib pad over that (we have portacribs at both grandparents house, so we bring this pad along). I would say that unless you are buying the full-sized crib waterproof mattress pad to protect the mattress from dustmites, I would recommend the portacrib pad. The portacrib pad is much easier to take on and off since it doesn't have the elastic corners to deal with, which means you basically have to take the mattress out of the crib to put it back on. The BEST combination would be to have your mattress, the portacrib pad, and zip sheets- Then you never have to take the mattress out of the crib to change the sheets.

Great crib pad- super soft, no plastic, but still somehow waterproof... weird. Buy two because they take FOREVER to dry.

does not shrink to fit manufacturer's crib mattress...,

This review is from: Naturepedic Waterproof Fitted Crib Pad, 28x52 (Baby Product)
I was very excited to purchase 2 of the Naturepedic Organic Waterproof Fitted Crib Pads as I had just purchased the Naturepedic Dual Firmness Organic Mattress and wanted to make sure I covered it with a proper, organic pad. I followed the instructions to prewash one of the pads before fitting it to the mattress because it was supposed to shrink to fit. Unfortunately it did not and was quite baggy- not fitting snugly over the bed as it should. I contacted Naturepedic's customer service because after washing it twice, it continued not to fit AND the elastic detached from half of the cover as well. They were VERY HELPFUL and sent me a replacement. I washed the other pad and it also would not fit properly. Customer service sent a replacement for that one as well. When I received the replacements I washed one of them and dried it on high heat according to their instructions but, again, it did not fit the mattress properly.
I am disappointed with these pads because they are meant to fit my mattress and I wouldn't have invested so much money in an expensive Naturepedic organic mattress had I known I'd have a problem with Naturepedic's other products. Other organic mattress pads are not 100% organic cotton and they also contain polyurethane so I am reluctant to try other products but I will have to do so.

Fantastic Mattress Pad,
By merrystar (Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews

We purchased two of these mattress pads for my newborn daughter 15 months ago. They are wonderful -- soft, thick and pleasant to touch. They had no smell at all when they came out of the package, which totally amazed me. They also do a fantastic job: the (waterproof) mattress under the pad has never even been damp. After 15 months of nonstop use they look and feel like new.
In terms of drying, these take about 15-20 minutes longer (on low heat) than the rest of my daughter's laundry to be dry. Originally I wasn't sure whether I should spend the money on these mattress pads, but I now feel that it was money very well spent, and I can unreservedly recommend them to anybody looking for a nice alternative to the traditional mattress pads out there.

I've had this fitted pad over my baby's Naturepedic mattress for about a year now, and it's holding up great. As others have noted, it does take longer to dry in the dryer than regular clothes do, but that's doubtless due to the composition of materials making the pad waterproof rather than a product flaw, and isn't a big deal to me. Rather than running the dryer one time, I might have to run it one-and-a-half times. No biggie. It feels very comfortable to the touch, and I like that stains (including poop) wash out easily. It fits over the mattress well. I wish it were a little less expensive, but I'd rather pay more to have my daughter sleep on healthy, safe materials. I recommend this product.

I didn't get the fuzz or the odor with this as the other user did. I'm interested to see how it's waterproof because it's not lined with anything waterproof, but then I like that as an organic product. The mattress already has its plastic cover, I don't need yet more plastic! It is waiting for baby to arrive so it's not tested but so far I'm pleased with it as a cover for the mattress. It's well constructed.
