5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

We have always used a clay litter and the dust it produced was horrendous. I purchased the Feline Pine and although it took our 2 cats a couple of days to adjust, they accepted it and it is soooooo clean. No more DUST! Yeah!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A list of pros and cons, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
I loved, loved, LOVED this product when I first started using it, but I'm now researching other brands. I'll list my pros and cons and let you be the judge. First the background: I have two indoor cats for the first time in my life. I've always had indoor/outdoor cats. I've also used regular (non-clumping) clay litter for years as that is what my older cats preferred. I decided to add a box with clumping litter after months of constantly hauling large bags of the clay litter to keep up with two indoor cats. Feline Pine Scoop was my first try.

Pros

- Awesome odor control. For weeks after first filling the box, the whole room smelled like nice fresh pine. (This would obviously be a "con" for someone who doesn't like a pine smell. :-) ) The pine smell faded, but the odor control remains excellent.

- I put a new box filled with this litter next to the old, non-clumping litter box, and the cats started using it the very first night. They still use both about equally.

- It is supposedly more environmentally friendly than clay. The litter is made of biodegradable pine; however, putting it in a plastic bag before putting it into a landfill would pretty much negate any biodegradable properties of the product! Also, the company says pine is more renewable than clay, but I can't comment on the accuracy of that.

- No dust!!

Cons

- The clumps are somewhat fragile. Maybe it's my amateur technique, but small parts break off when I'm shaking the scoop to separate the clump from the clean litter. (And, of course, if you hit a clump the wrong way in the process of scooping, it breaks apart easily.) The strong deodorant properties of this litter; however, nullify this as a big problem for me.

- Here is my main "con," and over the course of time it has become bigger and bigger. The small grains or flakes (or whatever one would call the smallest unit of manufactured pine litter) are very fine and lightweight; thus they track all over the house. The litter box is in a carpeted spare bedroom. The cats have to cover several inches of a very effective litter mat (when they don't jump over it) and several feet of carpet before they hit wood floors. Remnants of this litter end up all over. It has to be swept up from the wood floors daily, and it's getting to be a pain.

Sadly, it's this last "con" that has me researching other clumping litters. I love this litter otherwise, and I may come back to it. But for now, I'm on the hunt for a dust-free, deodorant, NON-TRACKING alternative.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good for long-haired cats, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
Although I loved the odor control of this litter, I had to stop using it. My cat is long-haired, and every time he used the litter box the tiny pine particles would stick in his fur. Being a cat, and thus wanting to be exceptionally clean at all times, he would lick it all off. This, in turn, would cause him to throw up constantly. I know that it wasn't his food, because I hadn't changed it, and the vomiting started when I switched to feline pine scoopable and stopped when I switched back to my trusty clay clumping stand-by. So, alas, as much as I loved the excellent odor control of the pine and the fact that there was no harmful silica dust to breathe in while scooping it, I have switched back to clay, and resigned to hold my breath whilst scooping. Who knows, maybe it would work with a short-haired breed. It's worth a shot, you can always switch back.

This litter clumps pretty good.I bought this because my cats and I were getting sick of all the really smelly cat litter with perfumes and unknown harmful chemicals in other litters. This litter is quite dusty like other litters.Breathing in basically "sawdust" can be harmful as well.I like the smell of the pine.Though it doesn't really hide the smell of feces too much.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Product but overpriced, July 23, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
You can use pine horse bedding pellets in place of this product - it is basically the exact same thing. It is made to control and absorb urine but since it is for a large animal it is much cheaper - $5.99 for 40LBS at Tractor Supply. I have a multicat houshold and this stuff has been a godsend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Litter!!, July 21, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
This is by far the best cat litter I've ever used. I've had long haired cats for 15 years and I wish I'd known about this stuff earlier. I started using it about 1 1/2 years ago.

The things I like best about it are:

-the odor control is INCREDIBLE. Best of any litter I've ever used.
-it's lightweight. No more heavy bags or tubs to lug around.
-it doesn't have that awful perfume/fragrance scent of clay litters. That's worse than smelling cat pee and poop. One brand claims to be the world's best and it smells so NASTY even when clean. This has a nice clean, natural pine odor.
-it's relatively economical. Before this, I was using a crystal litter product and it was okay, but this is so much less expensive.

I've never had a litter that didn't track. (Well, yes I did, but it was the SweetPea system that used rocks and it's no longer available). This litter tracks a little bit, but not as bad as some I've used. You get super tiny flakes of pine. It doesn't look or smell like used litter. Crystal cat litter left pee soaked crystal pellets all over my house. Clay litter left balls of pee soaked clay in my cat's paws and then all over. Gross. My litter boxes are in the basement and the cats have to walk up the stairs and across a rug to get to the main level. There's no litter that makes it past the rug. I could see how if you had the litter box in your living space and if you had hard floors, you'd have to sweep frequently.

I've had no problems with the litter getting stuck in the cats fur. I've had no problems with the cats barfing from ingesting this litter. (They barf no matter what, that's what cats do). It's not too hard to scoop, and honestly, because it's so economical, I usually just dump the whole box once a week and don't bother to scoop. What can I say, I'm lazy.

I've tried literally every brand and type of litter out there. This is the best. Don't bother with the Feline Pine pellets, they're awful. Get the SCOOPABLE. It's available in smaller boxes too.

I wish Amazon had this as a Subscribe N Save item!!

Absolutely horrible product. It doesn't clump properly and my cat tracks it all over the house. I'm stunned that this product has gotten such high reviews. Stunned!

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't think so...., June 1, 2010
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
Yes, there are certain pros to this brand, which have been listed already by other users, namely:
-eco-friendly: sustainable, not mined, etc
-cheaper than some
-safe for pets and owners

Nevertheless, there are major flaws as well, and I would not purchase this litter again.

More specifically,as others have already mentioned, this litter sticks to fur and gets EVERYWHERE. Don't even THINK about it if your cat has long hair (I have a Maine Coon.) At first I thought that the mess was manageable a.k.a. "I'll just vacuum it up." - WRONG!!! I don't know what it is but this litter nearly broke two vacuums. It also DOESN'T WORK WITH the OMEGA PAW SELF-CLEANING LITTER.

Additionally, though others have raved about the odor-blocking, I didn't notice anything sensational. Smelled the same as other clay brands.

In sum: Only buy this if your cat has very short hair and if you don't mind wood-dusty particles all over your house....

4.0 out of 5 stars Currently my best alternative litter...., September 8, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
My former favorite litter, Fresh Results, was recently pulled off the shelves at my Wal-Mart. It was made by a company called 8 in 1, the same company that makes Nature's Miracle. It was exactly the same corn-based litter as Nature's Miracle, just cheaper. I was pretty happy with the clumping power and performance of that product, but to be honest I never loved the artificial pine smell. Plus my cat seems allergy prone, so corn and wheat-based litters may not be the greatest thing for him. I was ready to make a change anyway, and decided to give Feline Pine clumping another try. I'm lucky in that my cat could care less what kind of litter is in his box, as long as there is some. Yes, this has the exact consistency of sawdust, but my litter mat stops most of the tracking. I have wood and tile floors and run a broom over them daily and don't find this litter too messy to be tolerable. Still, I wish the granules could be a little larger so that's why I'm knocking it down a star. My other big issue is that my house has a pantry moth problem. If you've never experienced these moths count yourself lucky. Who knows where they came from but they are impossible to eradicate. They will get into SEALED containers, I swear, and lay eggs which hatch into little worms in any of your grain-based dry goods (flour, dried breadcrumbs, cornmeal, rice, etc.). I store most of my dry pantry goods like this in the fridge now, set out moth traps, kill every moth I see, and yet I constantly purge infested items anyway. The corn based cat litter was not helping the situation in the least, and the thought of moths hatching in my litterbox, growing up and moving on to my oats was nauseating. Not only will the Feline Pine not support moth breeding, it seems like it would act as a moth repellent, in the same way that cedar does. At any rate, my cat and I are happy with this litter for now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst. Cat litter. Ever, September 4, 2009
This review is from: Nature's Earth Feline Pine Scoop Cat Litter (Misc.)
I am a veterinary technician and a longtime cat owner. I thought it was a nice idea to try a more environmentally friendly cat litter. I was very wrong. While it takes care of urine odor, my one bedroom apartment constantly smelled like feces while I was using it. My cats tracked it all over my apartment-If I did not vacuum at least once a day, my floor looked like a workshop. Not to mention, it is basically sawdust in a $12 box marked 'environmentally safe cat litter'. Had I known all it is is sawdust, I would have just asked my dad for a box of sawdust.
