I bought this shampoo because I am at menopause age and the front of my hair is noticeably thinning. Rogaine didn't work for me. It seems most shampoos just don't give the volume that they advertise to. When I can fluff the front of my hair, it doesn't look so thin. This shampoo tingles when applied to my scalp. It cleans extremely well and my hair looks so much thicker when I use it. I love it. The conditioner is excellent also; same tingling to the scalp and does not weigh down my fine, thinning hair. I hope I can always find this product to purchase. I love it:)

One thing should be made clear. Biotin does NOT absorb through your hair or skin. If you think biotin will help you, you need to either get it in your food, or take a supplement. eHow says that the best source of biotin is in nuts such as peanuts, filberts, almonds, peanut butter, and in smaller amounts in some other foods (Google "foods containing biotin" for more info). If you are going to take a supplement, I highly suggest NatureMade supplements, because they are the only brand (at this moment) that is USP-verified that sells a biotin supplement. The USP-verified logo is the ONLY way that you know that the supplement you are taking actually has the ingredients on the label, and doesn't also contain harmful ingredients like lead (which is more common than you think).

This shampoo will NOT stop or slow your hair loss because of its particular ingredients. The only treatments proven to help hair loss are minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia, which women cannot take). And those will not help you if you do not find out the cause of your own hair loss - there are many causes. You need to eliminate that cause if you want the hair loss to stop.

That out of the way:

At the beginning of this year I started losing handfuls of hair. I know the cause now - a treatment for a medical issue. I started to lose significant amounts of hair 1-2 months after the treatment (and continuing for 4-6 months after that). Just as background, my hair has always been very fine and thin. But I was losing way more hair than I've ever lost before, and you could see my scalp all over my head no matter how I styled my hair, including a balding spot on the back of my crown.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews for this product - I think it's wonderful. Apparently, from what I glean from earlier reviews on here, this product USED to contain SLS, but please know that it is entirely SULFATE FREE now.

I think actually that may be why some reviewers don't like it; sulfate-free shampoos do have a tendency to feel like they "evaporate" in your hair without lathering and you might feel like you need to keep adding more and more. That high amount of lather is not necessary for getting your hair clean - all that accomplishes is to strip the hair of its natural oils and nutrients. It's sort of a psychological trick - we associate suds and bubbles with cleaning, so shampoo manufacturers make their shampoos really foamy so that we think they're cleaning really well, when in fact they're just really harsh. Sulfate-free shampoos, like this one, clean your hair just as well as sulfate-laden shampoo, but without damaging it.

So yes, if you've never used a sulfate-free shampoo, you might be surprised at how this product works. But even though it's a low-lather shampoo, it cleans well.

Also, I have not had any problems with this over-drying my scalp or causing dandruff, as some of the other reviewers have. Since this is a more natural product, there are a lot more allergens in it than in some drugstore shampoo, so I'm wondering if that might be the case for these people.

Anyways, I love the way this makes my hair look - soft, shiny, and manageable. I don't know how much it's strengthened my hair (I've only been using it about a week), but it certainly hasn't hurt. Lastly, I absolutely love the scent - herbal and minty. I'll continue to use and will buy again!

I purchased this item b/c I got it at a great price. I started using it a few weeks ago and one thing I noticed was my hair was not plugging the drain. Before I tried NG strengthening shampoo (Sulfate Free), I would have to grab a tissue to grab all my hair from the drain so water would be able to go down after my shower. Now weeks into using NG I haven't had to clean the drain at all. My hair isn't even falling out when I comb it! The only thing I can think of is the shampoo. I will defenitaly be wanting to purchase this shampoo again!

Significantly reduced the amount of hair loss while using this. I don't like how my hair felt after the shampoo but I didn't care because I wasn't loosing hair. The conditioner works good if you leave it in for about five minutes.

After a few uses my hair does seem a bit fuller. Just a personal thing, but I'm not crazy about the strong pepperminty scent.

I have been using Nature's Gate shampoo for a few years now. It is gentle on my hair and does a good job. I am sensitive to strong chemicals and Nature's Gate does not seem to have ingredients that irritate my scalp. This particular one has a smell that I am not crazy about, but it does the job. there are other versions that smell a little better.
the smell does not linger at all and you only notice it when you are shampooing. I search out this brand and have to order it online because my drug store does not carry it.
