5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and challenging, January 13, 2010

This review is from: Nature's Instinct Foragewise Turn'n Learn Logs for Conures, Amazons, Macaws, and Similar Birds (Misc.)
I have a Congo African Grey, and we've used this toy daily for a year. Our parrot has many foraging toys, and this was actually the hardest one for her to learn to open. I initially just put food in all the open sections. Later, I started closing each about 1/4 of a turn. After about a week, she was able to unscrew all of them the whole way. People now are quite amazed at her system. She can unscrew all three screwed sections in about 30 seconds each.

I have found the toy to be extremely sturdy. After a year of use, the plastic is like new, and I have never had problems with the metal chain or rings. The chain is like a medium dog choke chain, and quite tough. I'm surprised that even a cockatoo (in the other review) could unlink it. I would have thought it would hold up to anything! But at least an African Grey sized bird (or smaller) should not be able to harm the toy at all.

I highly recommend this toy for anything from a large Cockatiel up to an Amazon or African Grey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this for my African Grey and although the 'logs' are a little big for him to grab with his feet, he still has a ball opening it and "fighting" with it. I can't even hang it back up before he's grabbing for it. Love this toy!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Keep one for parts, November 3, 2008
This review is from: Nature's Instinct Foragewise Turn'n Learn Logs for Conures, Amazons, Macaws, and Similar Birds (Misc.)
This is the second one I've bought. Very poorly made. After about 2 weeks they fall apart. I stick with it because my Cockatoo likes it. What they need to do is change the bottom larger link rings so the parrots can't separate them from the smaller links (which makes the plastic bolts fall off). Also if those larger rings fall off, the small chains could come off too..not good eating for your bird. They need to either weld the larger bottom rings or use a stronger thicker ring that can't be separated by the parrots. Maybe they just don't know a Cockatoo's jaw strength (amazingly they show a cockatoo in their picture) that can EASILY tear up 2x4's let alone this flimsily made toy. I had to add my own parts to strengthen the toy or else my bird might swallow their cheap metal parts and that wouldn't be good. They need a 'new and improved' Turn'n Learn Log. Don't buy it unless you plan on reinforcing it.
