VERY DANGEROUS TOY DON'T BUY THIS FOR YOUR PARROT,
By
This review is from: Nature's Instinct Foragewise Parrot's Treasure for Conures, Amazons, Macaws, and Similar Birds. (Misc.)
I purchased this toy for my Moluccan Cockatoo and he got one of the
screws undone and then got his foot halfway between the top and bottom of this toy and his foot was smashed and he couldn't get his foot out and couldn't get the other screw un done. He frantically got the link that held the toy to the top of his cage un done to get the toy to a better height to get his foot free. I was in the next room hearing him playing hard but didn't know what was happening, to my shock he was flailing and scared and couldn't help himself. Even under supervision this is a dangerous toy. I grabbed my bird and ran to my husband and held the bird while he got the other screw un done. We threw the toy away and notified the store who is taking it out of their store, making a poster and notifying the seller.

Great Puzzle Toy for Parrots,

My Mollucan Cockatoo really loves his Treasure Bird Toy. Every morning I fill it with different treats, and by the time I leave the room, he is usually playing with it. It is always empty by the end of the day. Although he learned pretty quickly how to open the treasure box, he has never seemed to get tired of it, and he has had it for quite a while now. He picks his feathers sometimes so it is always a challenge to find toys to keep him busy, this is one of his favorites. I would highly recommend it to any parrot owner! Well worth the money, very tough toy.

No good.,

So, I know a few people say they really like this toy. However, in my experience, its no good at all. First off, my Senegal can easily open the keys. The first time I put it in the cage it only took a few minutes. However, I didn't realize at that time it would prove more difficult in the future. He still has no problem unlocking the keys and pulling them out, but when he does. nothing happens. You can swing it frantically and the bottom still does not drop. There have been times when it has been unlocked for up to a week, and the bottom still does not drop. At first, it didn't really bother me, because I knew he could get it open by smashing it and swinging it around. But because of this, the last time it smashed him in the head when it did drop and now he won't even go near it. I don't think that ever would of happened if it worked like it was supposed to.
Secondly, after only a few months use, the 'heavy duty, durable keys' have rusted out, which is not something anyone would want to give to their bird.

A great, challenging foraging toy!,

It took my caique parrot Icarus quite a while to figure this toy out, but now it is one of his favorites. When he sees me put it into his cage he runs over and starts wrestling with the keys.
One thing I really like about this toy is that it is translucent, so the birds can see the food inside. You can also adjust the level of difficulty by locking the chest with only one key or by pushing the keys only partway in. I've been using this toy for over a year now and running it through the dishwasher regularly, and it has held up very well. This toy works well for small birds (caiques, conures, etc). They may not get it right away, but keep rotating it into their cage and eventually they'll figure it out!

I bought one of these Treasure chests for my 6 month old Jardine's parrot. Like a typical Jardine's, she is smart and figured out how to turn and pull the little locks on the front to open the chest in about ten minutes.
We've had this toy for a few months now, and it has taken a beating - both from my parrot, and from my dishwasher - but it still looks like new and it still keeps her interested. This is one of many foraging toys in her cage, and although it is simple, it is one of her favorites. My only gripe about it is that when opened, the bottom portion drops a few inches, away from the top portion which stays suspended from the chain via a larger link that doesn't fit through the hole in the top. Although we played with this toy for quite some time while our Jardine's watched, the first time she opened it and it dropped open, she was startled by it. Birds who are less than well socialized or who are typically fearful of sudden movements or noises, or new things happening will probably be terrified of this toy. This is the ONLY reason that I gave it four stars instead of five. Because it is translucent, the bird can see what is put inside. Our parrot made opening this treasure chest look like a piece of cake, so we began putting treats inside of smaller boxes, or wrapping them in paper, and stuffing this chest with those to make it more difficult for her. |
