Make that feathered bugger work for his seeds,
This review is from: Nature's Instinct Foragewise Tiki Takeout for Conures, Amazons, Macaws, and Similar Birds (Misc.)
Our Gold-capped conure really seems to enjoy chewing his way through the wooden posts to get to his seeds or treats. In the morning we put seeds in the Tiki hut and use the small-sized posts which are easier for him to chew and break apart for some morning foraging. In the afternoon I sometimes put a treat in there (e.g., big piece of banana chip) and use the large-sized posts so the bird has to work a little harder if he wants the treat. Sometimes I've seen him go over and chew on the posts even when the thing is empty. It has been a great foraging toy: sturdy, easy to wash, and fun to watch our bird in action with it.

It has held up nearly 2 years, now... can't say that for most of our bird toys. Our macaw loves it, wish they made an even larger version with bigger wood. You can buy the dowels at a hardware store and chop them up to save a few $$'s.

Purchased this for my Blue crowned conure and Quaker parrot and they looooooooooooooooooove this toy so very much. When it arrived I made a big production of being fascinated with it, showed them the wooden slats, picked up a piece of millet (their favorite treat) and placed it slowly inside. Then I replaced the wooden slats one by one slowly, and hung it in the cage. The both of them watched avidly but with any new toy, seemed cautious of it at first--so I had to keep reminding them of it by "playing" with the toy myself. Eventually I caught the Quaker with his beak buried between the slats, chewing on the wood and nibbling at it furiously--the conure is lazy, I have to hold it up for him. But! They both seem to love this toy despite not really doing much damage to the wood. I can imagine this would be a treat for a much larger bird to tear through, such as an Amazon, McCaw's and more. Really awesome bird toy and totally recommend!
