Product Description

About the Brand

In 1971, Arran Stephens and a business partner opened Canada's first large organic supermarket, LifeStream. Founded on the ideal of serving delicious, wholesome foods grown and processed in harmony with nature, the store soon expanded into milling, baking, making muesli, granolas, alfalfa sprouts, nut butters, energy bars, and wholesale distribution. Within a few years, the LifeStream line had grown to include a wide range of products, including both natural and organic whole grain foods and soy-based vegetarian entrees. The company even published its own vegetarian cookbook, which sold over 125,000 copies. Annual sales at LifeStream reached $9 million, making the line one of Canada’s leading natural food brands at the time. LifeStream sales continued to grow to $12 million, but an awkward partnership led to the sale of the company in 1981. It eventually was acquired by Kraft/Phillip Morris.

Then in 1985, Arran and his wife, Ratana, started a new venture christened Nature’s Path, from the back of their natural foods restaurant. The company’s first product, Sprouted Organic Manna Bread, debuted at the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, Calif. Organic Multigrain, Multigrain & Raisin, and Millet Rice Flakes were the very first Nature’s Path cereals and remain as popular as ever. By 1989, building on the success of its cereals, the company had grown 800%. To meet demand, acreage was bought and a 54,000 square foot organic processing plant was built in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. This was the first third-party certified organic cereal plant in the world. Later, ten years after starting Nature's Path, the Stephens family purchased back LifeStream from Kraft. Since, the company has continue to expand its facilities and the brands and products it offers--adding waffles, additional cereals, granola and energy bars, flaxseed meal, baking mixes, and more.

If you've never had flax seed oil before, you may notice a slightly "off" flavor to Nature's Path's version of raisin bran. I think even flax newbies will habituate to this taste, especially because of the familiar taste of the multi-grain flakes and the raisins (see other reviews). As one who sometimes puts a tablespoon of flax seed oil on top of oatmeal, the flax seed flavor was a welcome change from the usual cold cereal offerings.

THis cereal is pretty darn good for you> Obviously, you're gonna want to consult a doctor or nutritionist, and I am neither. From a lay person's pont of view, however, the 11 grams of fiber("11 WHOPPING grams," I should say--that's way more than oatmeal, and more than bran flakes or any other hot or cold cereal I've seen) 600 grams of Omegas and no saturated fat all sound very good for you. If offers 20% of the Daily Value of iron (see nutritional information below), without any added iron! Very rare. Perhaps it has to do with all those organic grains (and raisins): Organic whole wheat flour, organic wheat bran, organic oat bran, organic barley malt extract. (See below for a complete list of ingredients.)

Nature's Path is making some of the most interesting cereals around, with healthy organic ingredients not often found in other products (e.g., pomegranites, pumpkin seeds). You can get a good idea of the breadth and depth of their products by visitng their website at naturespath.com

This is very good cereal. It is healthier than most raisin cereals. I like it being organic too. The flax is also a plus. In the end, it is just slightly less desirable than the NP Pumpkin raisin cereal. But you will like this cereal.

Perhaps the raisins are how they are because it's organic, but without some soaking these raisins are a bit like tar...
I do love the bran and flax taste. If you're thinking about buying this product online, I'm sure you're aware of what it tastes like.

My quest for foods without high fructose corn syrup or fake sugars tends to make my shopping trips (in stores and online) take considerably more time, but it's well worth it!

The flakes in this cereal are crunchy, tasty, and they don't get soggy fast. I really like those aspects about it. One downer is that the raisins are rather hard. My boyfriend complains about the raisins being hard a lot, doesn't bother me so much, and I told him to just take his raisins out and add fresh raisins if it bothers him.

Made from good stuff, tastes like good stuff. I would pick this over Kellogg's Raisin Bran any day.

Oh, man do we love this cereal! My family tried the Natures Path Organic Flax Plus and loved it so much that I bought a case from Amazon and while I was at it, decided to try it with raisins. Oh my goodness! Crazy Good! I'm going to have to up the deliveries of this. Everyone loves it, and we use the Flax Plus on occation on it's own, but usually in parfaits now. TRY THIS CEREAL!!

Great cereal @ a great price. Taste good even though it is good for you. Not like other cereals that claim to have raisins and really only have a small handful in the entire box.

I eat this cereal daily and doing so have dropped my triglycerides to a healthy level. I don't as another stated here notice any fishy taste or smell, I find the taste better than the popular raisin bran cereals sold in stores. Add blueberries and your in heaven.

I have been using this cereal for about a year now and it is by far my favorite. I used to add honey to it, but I realized it is plenty sweet enough without honey. Give this cereal a chance!! Healthy and tastes great!!!
