Can't live without it,
By Susan (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
This is the only iron that has worked for me. I've been anemic for decades and have trouble with absorption. I also have colitis and iron is very hard on your stomach so I am extra sensitive to that. This product does not upset my digestion at all. I've tried liquid liver, every other form of iron, even iron-IV but when I discovered this product I have finally been able to live a normal life. A very helpful tip is to take it on an empty stomach (and at least 1 hour away from drinking tea).

some digestive issues...,
By Earth Mama "Earth Mama" (Columbus,OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
I bought this supplement because I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Floradix. Something which contains both B-12 and iron. I have fibroids and my cycles are VERY VERY heavy, and my ferritin levels are horrible --- last year it was a 2! Dietary changes don't seem help me at all (doesn't matter whether or not I eat meat, or animal products, my levels remain the same-- horrible!).
My very first dose of Hema-Plex gave me an awful stomach ache, and I'd say about 60% of the time it seems to go down okay but 40% of the time it gives me a nasty, dull sort of stomach ache which lasts for hours. I have had some issues with bowel movements, mainly straining and intestinal gas -- both of which are symptoms of constipation. My diet is 100% vegetarian and 95% vegan.... I get TONS of fiber :) I only eat brown rice, beans, vegetables, and whole grains. Bowel symptoms appeared within seven days. I have been taking the supplement for 13 days now, and while I am not fully constipated I am definitely pooping less and having some black poop. So far, there are only a handful of iron supplements which don't upset my stomach. Floradix is the best, because it gives me a boost of energy in addition to the iron. Vitamin Code Raw Iron is also easy to tolerate, and is food based. I have also had success with Advanced Ferrochel by Source Naturals, Gentle Iron by Solgar and Vitamin Shoppe (the last three are ferrous bisglycinate, which seems to be truly gentle). Herbal Iron by Nature Works seems to be good as well, although two doses (out of 25) seemed to give me gas. To be honest I don't feel very well on this supplement. When I took Floradix I noticed a positive change within seven days. For now, I am going to try and make it through the month because my levels are really low. But next month I am definitely going back on the Floradix! *disclaimer* I have pre-existing stomach problems (maybe an ulcer but I'm not sure) which might have something to do with me not being able to tolerate this supplement. I love most products by Nature's Plus. They do have an *easier to tolerate* supplement which is their chewable iron (my son loves it).
