Can't live without it,
By Susan (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
This is the only iron that has worked for me. I've been anemic for decades and have trouble with absorption. I also have colitis and iron is very hard on your stomach so I am extra sensitive to that. This product does not upset my digestion at all. I've tried liquid liver, every other form of iron, even iron-IV but when I discovered this product I have finally been able to live a normal life. A very helpful tip is to take it on an empty stomach (and at least 1 hour away from drinking tea).

some digestive issues...,
By Earth Mama "Earth Mama" (Columbus,OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
I bought this supplement because I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Floradix. Something which contains both B-12 and iron. I have fibroids and my cycles are VERY VERY heavy, and my ferritin levels are horrible --- last year it was a 2! Dietary changes don't seem help me at all (doesn't matter whether or not I eat meat, or animal products, my levels remain the same-- horrible!).
My very first dose of Hema-Plex gave me an awful stomach ache, and I'd say about 60% of the time it seems to go down okay but 40% of the time it gives me a nasty, dull sort of stomach ache which lasts for hours. I have had some issues with bowel movements, mainly straining and intestinal gas -- both of which are symptoms of constipation. My diet is 100% vegetarian and 95% vegan.... I get TONS of fiber :) I only eat brown rice, beans, vegetables, and whole grains. Bowel symptoms appeared within seven days. I have been taking the supplement for 13 days now, and while I am not fully constipated I am definitely pooping less and having some black poop. So far, there are only a handful of iron supplements which don't upset my stomach. Floradix is the best, because it gives me a boost of energy in addition to the iron. Vitamin Code Raw Iron is also easy to tolerate, and is food based. I have also had success with Advanced Ferrochel by Source Naturals, Gentle Iron by Solgar and Vitamin Shoppe (the last three are ferrous bisglycinate, which seems to be truly gentle). Herbal Iron by Nature Works seems to be good as well, although two doses (out of 25) seemed to give me gas. To be honest I don't feel very well on this supplement. When I took Floradix I noticed a positive change within seven days. For now, I am going to try and make it through the month because my levels are really low. But next month I am definitely going back on the Floradix! *disclaimer* I have pre-existing stomach problems (maybe an ulcer but I'm not sure) which might have something to do with me not being able to tolerate this supplement. I love most products by Nature's Plus. They do have an *easier to tolerate* supplement which is their chewable iron (my son loves it).

Works for me!,
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
I've been taking Hema-Plex for 3 weeks now and I can already feel a difference in my energy level. I have had anemia for almost 2 years. Also, I had some "pica" issues due to my very low iron: addiction to crunching ice, frozen raspberries and a need to crunch strong mints. Weird, I know, but I had this issue for more than a year and a half. Now, within only 3 weeks there is a marked diminishing of the pica symptoms and I'd guess my iron numbers are up considerably. I'll have another test in a week, so I'll know then. Also, I haven't experienced any unpleasant side effects from Hema-Plex. Good stuff at a good price!

Best iron supplement,

This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
My daughter is a competitive runner and to keep her ferritin levels (iron stores) up, she must take iron. Hema-plex is the best supplement that we found to raise her ferritin levels and not bother her stomach.

Worked wonderfully!,

I've been dealing with anemia for almost ten years, but most iron supplements didn't seem to help and they always killed my stomach. I started taking this one and within a month or so, my iron levels were back to normal. It was also great because it didn't hurt my stomach at all!

Great! (Both during pregnancy and not),

In both my pregnancies, I had low hematocrit (HCT) levels when I'd get tested at the doctor's office. It was extremely hard to find a supplement that worked. I never did find one in my first pregnancy. During my second, I stumbled across Hema-Plex after trying many others (some that didn't work and one that did but gave me horrible tummy issues). This product does not give me any problems with my stomach and does not give me any constipation, either. Within 2 weeks of taking the product, my results in the doctor's office for that HCT test started going up. A month later, I was back in normal ranges.
Now, I need to take it because of the heavy menstruation I experience. Plus, I go cycling (bicycling, that is) several times a week and for very long rides on weekends, sometimes up to 100 miles. I've been out of Hema-Plex for a while and even tried something else (again) that just doesn't "do it" for me. Why I even bother with other brands, I'm not sure, but I'm ordering more of this stuff today.

Pleased with Hema Plex,
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
I have been taking Hema plex for about two years and like the product very much. Unlike other iron tablets, it does not cause constipation and is gentle on the stomach.

Very high dosage of iron,
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
This is a very good type of iron supplement. It has 85 mg. per dose (most iron supplements have 10-15 mg per dose), it works very well and is not expensive. I sell lots of supplements including several types of iron. My personal opinion is that it is safe in most pregnancies.

Hema-Plex and Stomach Pain,
By
This review is from: Nature's Plus - Hema-Plex, 30 tablets (Health and Beauty)
This product seem like the perfect supplement. When I take this product I get the worst stomach pain I had in my life, it feels like I am constipated but no signs of hardness in my poop. All my abdominal area is in pain, with gas. It almost feels like I have been food poison. I don't think I will be taken this anymore.
