There's been ongoing confusion as to whether this product is indeed vegan or sourced from animal products. So I thought I would take this opportunity to share some information.
There are two products online which have similar brand names -- "Garden of Life" and "Source of Life Garden". The former -- Garden of Life -- uses lanolin (an animal product); Source of Life Garden does not. They are 2 different companies. Therein lies the confusion about this product.
In January 2010 a friend of mine spent an hour talking with a chemist at Source of Life Garden. The vegan D3 is, in fact, vegan. He went through the entire production process with the guy and he was quite satisfied.

Due to my severe (as in I-carry-an-Epi-Pen-everywhere) allergies, it is hard to find a vegan vitamin D supplement around town that discloses the source of the vitamin D and product ingredients. I am not vegan, but stick to vegan supplements because I need full disclosure of all ingredients so I don't go into anaphylaxis and many vegan products are also mindful of notating many common allergens.
The Source of Life Garden Vitamin D3 has been sufficient to keep my vitamin D levels in check, and includes a sheet disclosing the analysis of the 5000 IU claim (the actual IU was 5129 in lab tests).
For folks who don't obtain enough vitamin D through food (or the sun), this is a great alternative to fish or lanolin based supplements. 2 capsules provide 5000 IU of vitmin D3 (cholecalciferol). I can sort of taste a light hint the mushroom-y flavor (it really is a negligible flavor) but it isn't as though you are chewing on a bunch of Shiitake mushrooms.

I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and my doctor told me I needed to start taking vitamin D (specifically vitamin D3). I was a bit worried because I'm a vegan and I had trouble finding vitamin D3 that didn't contain animal products. Thankfully, a search on Amazon revealed this lovely product - animal-free Vitamin D3 capsules!
Yes, the capsules are large, but I've had no trouble swallowing them. As recommended, I take two a day (5000 IU).
I wish Amazon offered these under their "Subscribe and Save" option - perhaps they will some day.

Great plant based D3 supplement
I am extremely happy with this vegan D3 supplement. It is relatively cheap and the pills aren't very large. I recommend this to all of my vegan friends.

Ok if you don't mind smelling like popcorn.

Arrived without the box.
This is a great product for vegans! It helps with low levels of vitamin D and addresses a deficiency. It's a very good source of (vegan) Vitamin D3.
