I've been using Perika for several months and I've found that it's working better for me than any other brand of St. John's Wort. I've suffered depression for years and this product has helped me. I would reccommend it to anyone, particularly before using a prescription drug. Drugs never worked for me. Just give it at least a three month trial.

Perika St. John's Wort contains the hyperforin part of the plant, which recent studies have shown to be the component that affects depression. I can attest to this, because I have used other SJW products containing the whole plant, and they did nothing to help me.

I actually find Perika similar in effect to Zoloft, which I took for two years. There are absolutely no side effects with Perika, it is 10% of the cost of Zoloft, and easily available. The half-life of hyperforin, however, is about 9 hours, unlike Zoloft at around 25 hours, so it's important to take Perika three times a day. If I miss a dose, I can feel my serotonin levels dipping.

As all the disclaimers state, don't take something for depression before consulting a physician. I agree, especially with severe depression which I experienced after my husband's lengthy serious illness (that's why I started on Zoloft). However, there is a place for Perika if the depression is mild to moderate, and if there is adequate emotional support nearby to initiate an alternative treatment in case the Perika doesn't work. However, if it does work, it's a very simple solution to a very complex problem.

I've been using Perika for 4 years for mild depression. I have tried other brands, even more expensive brands but this absolutely works for me!

I have been using Perika brand St John's wort for mild to moderate chronic depression for about 6 years. In that time, I've found Perika to be the most consistently effective brand, except for Wegman's store brand which you can only get if you shop at a Wegman's. Either of those is very good. I have personally not found any side effects and the cost is very low.

I also caution that people should consult their doctor before starting a regimen of any drug, especially an antidepressant. I started using it at the suggestion of my doctor years ago.

Of course different people will have different reactions to any drug (and St John's wort IS a drug) so be very attentive when you start to see how it affects you. I do find this effective. I take it three times a day with or without food.

I bought these a while back but didn't use them because my doctor put me on Lexapro and Lamictal. To make a long story short, I ran out of Lexapro, and haven't been able to get a refill yet for various reasons. Now, anyone who's ever had the experience of coming off of an antidepressant knows how hellish it is both mentally and physically. It's been about a week since I ran out of meds, so I started taking 3 of these a day to tide me over. I can really feel a difference between taking them and not taking them. I'm still feeling the effects of lexapro withdrawl, but SJW noticably decreases these sensations and lifts my mood tremendously. I'm nearly out, so I'm reordering. I may just take these instead of Lexapro from now on if I can get through the withdrawl process and my doctor okays it. I'm bipolor, and without medication I am highly emotional with serious mood fluxuations. I'm actually surprised and impressed that the SJW is helping at all given the hardcore meds I've been on for so long. If I weren't taking 3 of these a day, without the Lexapro I'd be getting withdrawl "shocks", crying spells, mania, lethargy and all sorts of other horrible things. i haven't even been taking these for a week, and I feel a dramatic improvement. I'm quite happy we had these around the house! Maybe these aren't for everybody, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend SJW in lieu of medication, but it does work as an antidepressant/mood stabilizer for some people.

I almost never write reviews but I felt compelled to write this one. I have suffered with mild to severe depression most of my life. I have learned how to stop 'stinking thinking' from robbing me of joy, but even with that skill, sometimes it is hard to be totally victorious over this illness. I researched St. John's Wort and found that the particular extract in Perika's product is only offered in a handful of other products but at a much higher price. I found the Perika to be effective and relatively inexpensive. I would highly recommend it for anyone suffering from depression - even if it doesn't work, it is worth a try and your odds are good that it will work. The pharmaceutical drugs are all horrible and to be avoided like the plague.

I ordered Perika after reading several good reviews about it. I have suffered mild-moderate depression for about 4 yrs and was grateful to find out that St. John's Wort could offer relief. This particular brand left me exhausted throughout the day. I felt like a zombie! I only took these for 2-3 wks because I couldn't deal with the low energy it gave me. I found myself taking naps when I normally would not. I do believe it helped pull me out of the blues temporarily. I have since returned to using the Henry's brand St. John's Wort, which works great without zapping my energy.

I started taking this mid-July. By September I could notice a positive difference. October was even more amazing! And now that November is almost over, I am a very pleased customer. My life is so much better with this stuff- depression has lifted and PMS is so much better! I can handle stress now that I have been taking this Perika regularly. I do take three a day. Sometimes I miss one but I can't say I notice. They are easy to swallow and they have been extremely effective. Years ago I tried an SSRI and stopped because I didn't like the side effects. I have no side effects on the Perika and it works just as well. You do need to be careful about drug interactions though. St. John's Wort will cause your liver to metabolize drugs at a different rate (often faster, sometimes slower from what I have read). This includes alcohol, perhaps that's why some use it to deter drinking.

seems to work well so far. i'm on my third month. early on i did have horrible insomnia, about 2 weeks worth.

I was very happy with this St johnd Wort pill. It has far fewer side effects than the other st johns wort pills I have tried.
