This is a very powerful product, most effective at fighting viral infections - something pharmaceuticals aren't very good at doing. What I like so much about Sambucol is that unlike so many other supplements, it actually has a lot of scientific basis behind it and was developed by virologists. So it's not like taking echinacea or ginseng.

When I get sick, there are two products I take: Sambucol, and Extreme Immunity (by Nature, Body and Mind, available here on Amazon as well). Two amazing products.

I use this product anytime I feel a cold coming on, and I must say that in my experience it has worked quite well. If you're anything like me you may be skeptical at first, however, it is definitely something I would suggest to anyone who may want to add to their "cold fighting" regimen.

Personally, I find that it works best if you take it when your cold symptoms (the standard sneezing, runny nose, etc.) are just starting, so having a bottle on hand is helpful. If you're looking for a way to shorten the duration of your cold, this product is worth looking into.

For helping to maintain health when colds and flu are making the rounds, Sambucol black elderberry is tops. I make it a point to keep this product on hand in my home.

WHAT IS THIS STUFF?

This patented "Sambucol" is the stuff that everybody tries to imitate. There is a reason for this - it has been proven to work against viruses like the flu. This "Nature's Way" product combines the excellent Nature's Way quality control with this proven, patented formula. The result is an excellent product that is not just for children and that has been documented to be effective against the flu.

NATURE'S WAY BRAND:

Yes, I do prefer the "Nature's Way" brand, though I have never purchased it from this vendor. This product uses the exclusive patent for "Sambucol", and "Nature's Way" has always demonstrated superb quality control, and efficacy in all the products of their's that I have used.

ALTERNATIVES TO SAMBUCOL:

Other products I have tried do combine elderberry extract with zinc, echinacea and Vitamin C, but they don't work nearly as well. The closest to this true Sambucol product comes from "Now", who makes a "Zinc Lozenge" that has all of these elements plus slippery elm, bee propolis, and 2.5 grams of sugar per lozenge. The 2.5 grams of sugar added per lozenge doesn't help one's immunity. Of course some people use herbal combinations with good effect, but Sambucol comes right out of the bottle and is ready to use.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

There really is something special involved in the manner that the elderberry is processed and extracted because no one has equalled the results against the flu virus the Sambucol has. If the flu has infected your household, this is definitely worth trying as there is no known way to simply get rid of the flu that works as well.

Nearly three years ago I had no insurance and was infected with a serious viral throat infection - my throat essentially covered with canker sores making it almost impossible to swallow. My medical bills ended up well over $1,000, and ultimately the doctors that treated me did next to nothing. After this wake up call (and massive bill) I looked into alternate medicine - serious alternate medicine, not speculative "medicine" like shark's cartilage and such, but medicine backed by hard science. I found two products.

First is Sambucol. This product was developed by world renowned virologist, Dr. Madeleine Mumcuoglu, who found under clinical studies that sambucol from elderberry extract actually helped fight viral infections, and more specifically helped your immune system re-build itself, instead of masking the symptoms like most pharmaceuticals do. I have since taken it any time I feel run down at all, and in the last three years have had one cold, and that had me out for about two days. It's a great product, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Also, another reviewer noted to purchase Saubucol made in Israel, as opposed to this. I have had no issues with this product at all, but if you can find Israeli made Sambucol with no additives, go for it.

Finally, I said there were two products I found. Thankfully the other can be found on Amazon as well. It is Extreme Immunity (white jug, green trim). I wrote a lengthy review on it's page as well. Suffice to say, it too was developed by scientists - biochemists in this case, and is backed by hard science which can be found on the company's website. I actually recommend Extreme Immunity over Sambucol, but both products are exceptional.

Natures way has changed their formula, be sure to check the label for the actual gram count, natures way actually improved their sambucus product by almost doubling the gram count of the actual elderberry extract. natures way does not sell Sambucol anymore, the new formula is listed as Sambucus, notice the ol is replaced by us. i actually contacted natures way and they gave me a great reason/answer as to why the change. so beware of what u are ordering because the label might be different from the actual heading on the product order page on amazon. the sambucol has a 3.8 grams of the actual extract, the new formula has 6.4 grams. There is a co. that sells the syrup under the name sambucol "original formula" by sambucolusa. that also has the 3.8 grams and has an overly fermented berry taste...i sent it back. the new natures way sambucus "original syrup" has a very good flavor with more per gram of the actual berry extract. bottom line...read your labels carefully and the pics in amazons adds might not reflect what u are getting...do your homework...hope this helps..THIS STUFF DOES WORK.

My oldest daughter was sick all the time her first two years of school. Finally a visit to a pediatric allergist revealed that she had no seasonal allergies (which I figured, but her doctors hadn't) and she had a weak immune system. He said we needed to boost her immune system, so we started giving her a tsp. of this every night along with some probiotics and other supplements. Within two weeks she was sick much less. Both of our children now take a tsp. of this every night during the school year. If they get sick, they get two or three tsp. a day for a few days.

I love this because anytime I feel like I might be getting a little sniffle that is out of the ordinary or a sore throat, I begin using this Elerberry Extract. It works! I work in a hospital where I am in contact with viruses, etc, each day I'm there. This is great to kick it out before it can even get started. I take as recommended, not as an every day prevention - only a few days in a row when I feel there might be somthing trying to "sneak up" on me. Tastes great too!

It used to take me three to eight weeks to get over the flu. Now, when I feel a bug coming on, I start the regimen suggested on the package. Within three days the symptoms subside, and I'm on the road to recovery.

My doctor reccommended this product before I went on a vacation trip and had some flu symptoms coming up. I stopped coughing right way, and I was feeling energetic and "cured" again in less than 2 days, without having all the side effects i usually get from over the counter medications like Robutussin. I found it to be too sweet, and that messed up my stomach a bit, but they also have a sugar-free version. I wish every pharmacy had it, and everybody knew about it!!!
