3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use product. Unpredictable color.
This product is easy to use. It comes with everything you need to get the job done: color, plastic gloves and a post-color conditioner. I have a substantial amount of grey hair and this product covers them evenly and completely. The color lasted for 3-1/2 weeks before I started to see grey hairs coming back. As a word of caution, the color is unpredictable. There are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best natural hair dye., March 8, 2009
I've been using this product for almost three years now, and I love this product. I've never had any problems with uneven coloring or streaking with this product. I've received so many complements from people about my hair color. I used to spend thousands of dollars on a professional hair salon color because my colorist used to blend two different shades together so I can have the perfect mahogany/chestnut color. But I didn't like the burning sensation that the salon product gave me, and how it irritated my skin (I have eczema on the back of my neck).

I found this product online at first, and had my husband pick me up a few boxes on one of his trips to London. Later, I found the product at Whole Foods, and my local Long's Drugs (in the organic section). I was skeptical because organic products don't usually have the same kind of strength as non organics. No problem here...it was easy and my hair came out perfect the first try!

Get yourself the right coloring tools. Go down to your local salon supply store, and get a color brush that has a sharp tip to help part your hair. Get some nice clips to help hold your hair up while you work through the sections of your hair. Also, and most importantly, get yourself a plastic poncho that covers your body while you work on your hair. Have some paper towels handy. I put all my dying equipment onto an old towel, and I do not stand on my white bathroom rugs, and just stand barefoot on the tiles. There will be drips, so avoid getting your things colored along with your hair by prepping your surroundings before hand.

The good:
No smell. No more burning sensation on my scalp. All natural and much healthier than regular hair dye. My hair actually looks healthier and less dry after I color it. The colors are beautifully mixed. It looks so natural, and offers a true 2-tone shade. In the sunlight, I can see the reds beautifully, and the chestnut color looks radiant in regular indoor light. The permanent dye COMPLETELY covers my tough grays.

The bad:
It does wear out faster than regular dye. It is more expensive than most home dyes (but still cheaper than salon prices). It bleeds on your towels when drying your hair. It can bleed onto your pillow sheets, if you do not dry your hair completely. However, the dye does wash out of your towels and sheets. It takes longer to work or set in. This means if you have tough grays, like I have, you'll need to keep the dye on for at least 45 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Natural Coloring Process, December 14, 2006
Trying one box of Naturtint Intense Permanent Hair Colorant may encourage dreams of trying additional colors throughout the year. The experience of coloring with this product was very pleasant (No Ammonia - makes a big difference in the comfort level) and much less messy than coloring with henna. The results seem similar to natural products I've tried, but this one has the additional benefit of increasing the volume of your hair. Each strand will increase in strength as you use the Nutrideep Multiplier. This is a cream conditioner included with the coloring.

The products in this packet include ingredients like oats, wheat, corn, soy and coconut to give hair nourishment. They really did consider everything to make your hair coloring task a breeze. The Hair Colorant and Color Developer mix up nicely in the applicator bottle that has an applicator tip with a twist off top. No need to even look for a scissors, they thought of everything.

After you color and shampoo your hair, you can apply the conditioner and leave it on for two minutes. I found this is necessary and it effectively brings out the depth of the hair color and produces shiny bouncy hair that is full and much easier to manage than before you started the process. The chestnut color seems perfect for winter and turns any gray hair into beautiful highlights with a subtle golden color. Leave on for up to 40 minutes to completely cover gray. I left this on for 30 minutes and was very pleased with the results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, July 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Thanks to my parents' genes I have prematurely gray hair so I have been using hair colorant since my early 20s. After years of using salon products I have decided to try something more natural and less toxic (after the birth of my son I have suddenly developed a strong desire to live a long healthy life). First I tried the "tree-huger" approach using a Henna powder mix. It was a complete disaster as my bathroom was a total mess afterward, had to throw away a towel, and the color was not even. I then decided that I would opt for slightly toxic and a reasonably long/healthy life. I then tried Naturtint. The product was easy to use, without harsh chemical smells, no burning sensation on my scalp, and left my hair super shiny and soft (which is a big departure from the dry, brittle hair that I'm usually left with after a color). The only slight minus was that the color was quite a bit darker than I imagined (and indicated by the box). I will definitely keep using it though but maybe experiment with different shades until I find something that I love. Though truthfully this color is not bad, just a bit darker than I had hoped.

Would definitely recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, April 29, 2008

I LOVE this product! It is by far the best hair color I have ever used. There is almost no smell to it. It is so gentle on the hair. My hair felt measurably different in a healthy way after using it. My only advice would be is that the colors are darker than what they say they are. I had heard this ahead of time so I chose the Dark Blonde to get to a light to medium brown shade. It did turn brown like I wanted and eliminated some of the brassiness I had in my hair. I love it.

I have used other home coloring--always a little disappointed between the harmful chemicals and the shine that is from chemicals and not my hair. Seemed like my hair itself got more brittle and required more care products the longer I colored.

Naturtint creates deep rich color with natural highlights (people think I have gently highlighted hair)My hair is in great condition with the conditioner that comes with it. And when I wash, and don't use anything else, there is no brittle hair, no dull look. Its easy to use, rinses out well. 100% satisfied!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, September 22, 2006
By

I've been using this product for years, and in different shades. It's very easy to use, it comes with a pair of disposible gloves and hair conditioner and the bottles you need to mix. It covers all of my gray nicely. My only complaint is that it doesn't last as long as I'd like. The color starts to fade and it seems sooner than regular dye, but the good part about that is you don't get a "root line", it's more of a gradual fade from roots to color especially if you keep coloring on top of the color you have. It doesn't burn your skin or your eyes. It doesn't come off on your pillow. It doesn't smell strong. After you shampoo, there's no smell either. And it's easy to change color. I have medium length, straight hair and I need two boxes to do all my hair from scalp to ends. I only need one box for the roots touchup. I usually buy this at Wild Oats, but they're always sold out of this color. It must be popular. I have brown hair (with lots of gray) and this comes out looking light, light brown, almost blonde. If I'm in the sun a lot, the color brightens up into a blonde. It also works as a good base color if you want to do highlights on top because it's not too blonde that it overwhelms the highlights and it's not too brown, it's a nice blending color. And you can use this color on top of the highlights and the highlights will show through. Great product.

There are photos on the box that show how the color will turn out (factoring in what color your hair currently is), but these depictions are not at all close to my results. I have dark brown hair and was hoping to lighten it to a dark blonde. I ended up with dark auburn. No hint of blonde whatsoever. People have commented that I have red highlights.

5.0 out of 5 stars So impressed with this product!!!, July 14, 2010
This review is from: Naturtint - Permanent Hair Colorant-Dark Chestnut Brown, 5.98 fl oz liquid (Health and Beauty)
I bought Naturtint at Whole Foods and the only down fall was that it was quite expensive ($18.00) compared to online! I'll buy online from now on. I have tried many products and this is by far my favorite. I am very impressed with the natural color. It covers gray really well and even though I am a brunette, I tried Light Golden Chestnut 5G and it's perfect. I tried the lighter color but like all color treatments, it comes out a lot darker than the box ....The color matches perfectly. I like that it's natural and there is no odor or burning... my hair feels baby soft. I am absolutely using this product again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than L'Oreal, Clairol, Garnier...., September 13, 2009

CPT (Flemington, NJ) - See all my reviews
Based on all the reviews here I went to our local health food store to buy Naturtint (Dark Golden Blonde), and found this product AMAZING!!! I used to have my hair done professionally, then when I lost my job, some things had to change...This is the first self coloring product I have found that actually covers gray effectively and completely!! No ammonia smells or scalp irritation, and the conditioner that's included is wonderful. My hair doesn't have that fried feeling, but rather soft and shiny. Totally worth the extra bucks vs. the advertised brands when the color lasts longer and your hair is healthier! Can't wait to see what my hairdresser thinks!
