The best for a more natural hair color product,

I was nervous about moving from a semi-permanent hair color to a permanent hair color, and I wanted a product that was as natural (for both me & the environment) as possible. I can highly recommend this product! (at least for the color I use - Light Chestnut). It makes my hair feel soft, shiny, and healthy. I also tried another natural hair color by Tints of Nature, and while it colored my hair just as well, my hair didn't feel as healthy (more dried out, less strong - my hair is fine and I wear it long, so this is important). Naturtint includes a conditioner/color-setting product, and I think this might be part of why it's better. I also think Naturtint smells better (less chemical-ly). I do find, however, that I have to leave the product on my hair for the longer amount of time listed on the directions (30 min. instead of 20) to cover grey more successfully and last longer. Anyway, I wished someone had written a review like this when I was trying to choose products, so here's one for someone else!

The Best Natural Looking Color,
By Anna-Banana "Snappy" (Forestville, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naturtint Permanent Light Golden Chestnut 5G 5.98 Oz (Misc.)
I have tried many different brands of hair dye in the past few years, including a horrifying henna experience that turned my hair orange, and several pricey salon visits to use Aveda hair color, and Naturtint was the best hair color of them all! Even though my hair had different variations of color to begin with (orange ends, gray at roots), the Naturtint colored it all in a completely natural brown. One thing I did notice (as I think is true with most dyes) is that the color came out much darker than I'd expected - I thought that might happen so I had picked a light brown, which came out med/dark brown.Very easy to use and no bad smell!!!!! The dye took very quickly (twenty minutes) and also stained skin quickly - so use caution when using. My only complaint is that the directions are in several different languages, and I almost missed a step in English because of the way it is designed. Very happy overrall - covered the gray completely and doesn't look fake.

I have been using this haircolor for 9 years. I can't be without it. I started using it because I wanted something that was safer and more gentle. I find that if I use a little less of the developer, the color lasts longer. This is a great product and I highly recommend it!!

As good as/better than salon stuff,

I started using this when I was moving out of town and told my hair stylist that I would no longer be able to have my hair done with her. I also told her that I was cutting costs and thinking about dying my hair myself. She recommended that I use this! In fact, she has used it on clients and thinks it's "wonderful." I have tried the other major "over-the-counter" brands (L'Oreal, Revlon, Garnier) and Naturtint has the best gray coverage of all of them, hands down. It is also very mild and doesn't dry my hair out, and has no harsh chemicals. I don't know why I think it's strange that a natural product such as Naturtint works eons better than big-name, chemical-laden counterparts, but it does. If you are considering dying your hair yourself, I highly, highly recommend Naturtint.

LOVE IT!!!,
This review is from: Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant, 5.98 Ounces - Light Chestnut Brown (Misc.)
This is the closest my hair texture has felt to it's pre-coloring condition since I started to dye my grey. I was so excited I told my hair dresser about it - she got pissed off. Guess she was counting on a standing cut and color appointment. I would rather do this in a salon than at home - she wouldn't consider it because a blonde client used a hot pink vegetable dye and she could not strip it out. (So if you're blonde, avoid hot pink vegetable dye!?)The head shots on the packing are not real appealing - but get past that and I think you will appreciate this product. I wanted a deep shade that didn't have red tones to it - as I have a florid complexion - and this is my color. Try it and don't let your hairdresser intimidate you. It's nice to have a real alternative to traditional hair coloring.

Leaves my hair looking healthy and shiny!,

I was looking for a natural hair color and tried some brands but they washed off after 1-2 shampoos. I then tried Naturtint and liked it but it still had the same problem of not covering my grey (not too much yet!) or lasting as long as it should. Finally I talked to Naturtint's customer support person who suggested I use less of the developer and voila, it worked!!! It also leaves hair shiny and healthy looking. I strongly recommend this product over Surya. I just still wonder though if there is some dye in it since it is permanent hair color after all...

Professional results without the harmful chemicals!,
By
This review is from: Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant, 5.98 Ounces - Light Chestnut Brown (Misc.)
Oh my goodness!! This stuff is amazing!! I have been wanting to use a natural color that did not contain harmful chemicals and whatnot. I would get my hair colored at the hairdresser, my scalp would get irritated and my hair would shed more than usual right after it was done. Then it would go back to normal, and then I would get my hair colored again and it would happen again. So I did some research and found there are a lot of harmful chemicals in most conventional hairdyes. I decided to look around and I came across this product in a health food store. I got the light chestnut brown, and it cost the same as any other at home haircolor. Well I tried it today, my scalp didn't get irritated, my hair didn't shed, and it didn't have that chemical(ly) smell to it. Also, the photos on the box kind of look cheesy, but don't let that bother you. The color turned out exactly the way I wanted, it has shine, bounce and is not weighed down at all. I am so excited to have a product that doesn't contain harmful chemicals, works well, and doesn't cost a lot of money. To me, this stuff is like Christmas, Thanksgiving and my birthday combined in one little bottle. I highly recommend it.

I've been using this product for ages and purchasing it at Whole Foods at a higher cost. I get great results by doing this: use half of the product and apply it to the roots. After 20 minutes, add a little water and massage the mixture into the rest of your hair for about 3 minutes. (Get some decent latex gloves for this. The ones in the box are hard to work with.) Then rinse and shampoo as normal. All over color at 100% is too harsh. With this little 3 minute diluted mixture out to the ends, you get a great color that doesn't look like shoe polish. Perfect! Even my hairdresser says it looks professional.

naturtint,

Great product without ammonia - doesn't burn you eyes or your scalp - you can leave the bathroom door closed while you color - doesn't have strong odor or fumes. Scent is what I call neutral, it is not unpleasant. Does cover the gray very well, even at the tempels. It is hard to find the right color, will have to experiment. This color came out almost black on me at first, but did lighten a bit and softened. It cost me $16 at HEB. Does change the texture of your hair and tends to dry it out. The change in texture makes your hair appear thicker, but makes it feel kind of wierd too.You might want to use a good quality conditioning treatment often with this hair coloring product.

Forget Clairol and Other Typical Hair Colors,
By Laura Christine "Jewel of Zion" (Toledo, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naturtint Permanent Light Golden Chestnut 5G 5.98 Oz (Misc.)
To me there is no comparison between this product and the typical drugstore kit.Health-wise, if I am going to inhale fumes during the coloring process, I am much more comfortable with this than I am with typical dyes. This does not have the noxious, chemical-like smell of its competitors, and I would bet anything that it is safer and healthier to use. Another key selling point is that it actually COVERS GRAY! Yes, all hair color products make that claim, but in this case it is actually true. Ironically gray hair generally does not take color as well as hair that has existing pigment. I do not mean to beat up on Clairol, but even their Gray Busters additive is challenged in terms of gray coverage. If you try this product, I doubt that you will go back to typical hair colors. This is more effective and I am all but certain that it is more safe. Hint: mix in some of the ash blond shade if you are plagued by brassiness. |
