4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful wood
This is good, silly fun for grownups. It's all black and white, a combination of sustained pieces with brief strips and even preliminary sketches. Stories include "Malice in Wonderland," a goofy takeoff on the children's classic. you don't even have this item in stock! You &*^%$%%! Why do you even try to sell it! I should have know better than to try to buy something from a website title "The Nude Muse". I've got to stop this internet thing. Since I signed up for the service I've purchased $500.00-$600.00 worth of junk in just two months. I thought. Wally Wood! Argueably(sp!) the greatest...

This review is from: Naughty "Knotty" Woody (Paperback)
This is good, silly fun for grownups. It's all black and white, a combination of sustained pieces with brief strips and even preliminary sketches. Stories include "Malice in Wonderland," a goofy takeoff on the children's classic. Other satiric (and satyric) rewrites include Flasher Gordon, The Wizard of Ooz, and fairy tales based on Cinderella and a standard charming prince, or so he appears at first. Material created from whole cloth includes The Pipsqueak Papers and Dragonella.

The Flasher piece, by the way, interleaves finished art with the conceptual sketches. Considering how refined Wood's final product is, I'm surprised at how very loose the original scketches can be, and how much the original concept sometimes differs from the eventual results. I enjoy that look at the creative process, but it may disappoint people looking for finished work. A number of other sketches, some of them without context by quite finished, fill the later pages of the book.

The completed pieces are quality goofiness. There's plenty cartoon nudity, some of it quite anatomical, and lots of sexual goings-on. Despite that, it's just too silly for me to consider it "erotic." This collection is for anyone with fond memories of Wood's cartoon style, and certainly not for anyone who wants pants on their cartoon characters.

PS: The "1495" page count listed on this page can't be right. Although the pages are un-numbered and I haven't actually counted them, it's probably more like 150 pages than 1500.

Argueably(sp!) the greatest comicbook artist yet produced and I thought a unknown volume (To Me) of his work. I was just pushing my luck.
