Prolific children's designer Bliss has drawn together a fine collection of 25 new designs for chldren's knitwear inspired by the sea and knitted primarily with cotton yarns. Her feel for the sea is expressed in intarsia sweaters sporting nautical motifs and in styles borrowing from traditional Arans and fisher knits. Although a good mix of knitting-ability levels is represented, one's eye goes immediately to the intricate lace jersey, the entrelac sweater, and the cabled fisherman's shirt?all of which represent considerable knitting accomplishment. Recommended for larger public libraries and where there is demand for high-quality children's knitwear designs.

I am big into Debbie Bliss' designs. This book is not different to her previous I own: great designs, very fashionable, and totally practical. The colors are beautiful, and if you are able to find the same cottons she uses, the results are a guaranteed success. The book has very easy to follow instructions if you have knitted before. Unlike her most recent book, Quick Baby Knits, this book has diagrams and I hope she continues to include them in future publications: they are most helpful. I have two girls (14 months and 2 and a half years' old) and they get a lot of "mileage" out of these sweaters. In this Nautical collection, my favorite piece is the baby blanket: easy to make, and a great heirloom for generations to share.
