The most authoritative, beautifully illustrated history and overview on the subject of Navajo weavings.

This is the definitive book on Navajo textile art, presenting the stunning artistry of esteemed Navajo weavers in over 200 beautiful color plates and historical halftones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Photos, Text, History, January 6, 2012
This review is from: The Navajo Weaving Tradition: 1650 to the Present (Paperback)
I have the earlier (1985) edition of this book, and I would give it five stars under any circumstances, so I assume the newer edition is even better -- six stars if that were possible! The history of Navajo weaving is highly informative, and the photos of rugs, ancient and new, are stunning. The chapters are:

1 A Brief Introduction to Navajo Weaving
2 The First Weavers
3 The Classic Period
4 Bosque Redondo and the Aftermath
5 The Reservation Traders
6 Contemporary Navajo Weaving
7 The Weaving Process -- Tools, Techniques, and Materials
Notes
Glossary
Selected Bibliography
Index

This book is valued by collectors of Navajo rugs, but really, it's a wonderful book for anybody interested in the Navajo, the Southwest, art, or weaving.
